New Combat system

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:20 pm

From what I saw in the trailer it seems that Bethesda moved away from their conventional combat. In the trailer you can clearly see execution style killings. In one part it looked like a dark brotherhood assassin (probably the player) coming up from behind an NPC and stabbing him in the throat with a dagger, and in another scene the player stabs a bandit or marauder in the stomach. My point being the combat system has advanced nicely and I can't wait to see it. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts:

My thoughts? Fantastic! The click-spamming combat of previous TES games was one of its greatest downfalls IMO. Having a fast-paced, cinematic combat system is a HUGE plus in my book.

Too early to tell. The trailer was too fragmented to make me confident in the combat system at this stage.

Maybe not the best example, what with the VATS and the guns and melee being practically as useless as H2H is in Oblivion. Just my opinion though.

I meant in terms of the game overall.. Although I admit its a bit off topic

Well, the combat is what got me the most interrested in this game lol.

And I can't wait to see how melee and magic can be combined. I mean, they're completely changed the magic system too

I know I was just poking fun. Fallout 3 was amazingly fun.

It all comes down to 1 question.

Will I feel like a badass playing the game, without it seeming like the game does everything for me?

We will see.............

Yes, the combat system is improved, and I'm eager to see how it works out. I'm still worried about some aspects of it though. They seem to have removed the ability to block attacks from entire character concepts.

I hope they aren't cut scenes like in Dragon age 2. If they are, I pray they play better than they did in Bioware's demo.

I hope there are no cutscenes at all. That was the best part of Morrowind/Oblivion. There may have been one or two cutscenes throughout the entire game. This made the game feel more like a real world you become part of instead of watching a movie.

Im hoping for Stealth - oriented charecters If your playing in first person - Assassin looks at blade - gets victim by the hair - slits his throat - wipes blood off his blade-
ALL IN 1ST PERSON :gun:

I can hope for this:

But any improvement over Oblivion will be just as welcome as Oblivion's combat was when compared to Morrowind's.

So you want to see a more Assassins Creed approach to it. I could agree with that, but then combat would just be too easy. I think it should have a more fallout 3 approach where you weaken your enemy, then when their health is low you perform a fatal deathblow. Kinda like in mortal kombat, you can do certain finishers that apply to the class you chose, or what angle you are facing them, or if you are in stealth mode or not
