Steam and Price for PC

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:35 am

I would love to be able to preorder skyrim on PC, like many other people. I find it outrageous though that you are charging $60 for every platform INCLUDING PC. I would like the PC price to drop to $50 like many other people.

Skyrim will probably be $60. If you do buy it off Steam, they don't charge tax. [Maybe if you're in the state they are located they do]

If it comes out on time, then Black Friday is around the corner and the holiday Steam sales that last for two weeks around Xmas and New Years.

60 is inexcusable for a digital product, it should be 40-50

Eh, well if its using a Steam only DRM system, then I will buy through Steam, which I hope would be about $50. But if the retail version is using a different type of DRM, such as a disk check or activation code, then I would pay $60 for it.

I don't know about steam, but the prices seem to vary greatly.
The German PC version is 52€ on amazon, I could get the English version in the UK for 35€ (~$48 I think). One more reason not to get the localized version.

$60 is fine with me, especially considering I will get to use the Creation Kit and mods. Actually, I will be paying more for the Collectors Edition.

As alreadly stated above, it will depend on your region and locality. However, will are always new sites developing who offer lower prices than main competitors for sale of games, so they could be a better option. Likewise there is plenty of time to go yet, for prices on some sites to go up or down, ebay could be a prime contender here.

The price should be whatever people are willing to pay.

It makes a lot of sense to price it as high as possible at launch and then a few months or a year later either drop the price or offer a package with DLC and the prior TES games.

Has it been confirmed that Skyrim is $60 for PC too? Then I will not be buying it. Dispite how I LOVE it so and have been looking forward to it since announcement. I will not stand for this bs with companies raising prices. We get 10$ off for PC because we pay more for computers. (And MANY other reasons) I will not support any company that decides to charge that much.

$60 is fine with me, especially for the PC, since I will have over 1000 hours of entertainment, plus mods if needed.
I think twice about paying that much for most other games out there though.

No, we get $10 off because console games have to give a cut of sales to microsoft and sony, and that $10 is that cut. That's on top of paying for licensing and dev kits and so, too.

It appears to cost £27.99 ($45) on http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-PC-DVD/dp/B004G5YW5Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1298836649&sr=1-1.

Those are some other reason's, I just listed the most prevelant one that we see upfront. But those are very true as well.

Maybe the price is a placeholder until officially announced? I don't know. But frankly, that's typically what you should expect to spend. Maybe slightly less for the PC version. Remember, we're paying wages for roughly 4-5 years of work for what, 100+ Bethesda employees? Sounds fair to me.

PC prices tend to be slightly lower than console prices. Fallout New Vegas was $10 US cheaper than XBox and PS3.

As for Steam it might be a good idea wait till the Christmas sale starts about a month after release. That'll knock abit more off the price and give time for a few critical patches to be released. Let's face it, the game is going to be released in a broken state. It's the Bethesda way.

In Australia, it's $98 for PC and $110 or something for Consoles.

I get many new games off of D2D now (Direct 2 drive). It usually has a promo going on of some sort, either a 10-20% off whatever or $10 flat off of anything. Sometimes they exclude pre-orders so just keep a look out. I got the special edition of Civ V for 49.99 so it worked for me. If its a steamworks game you use steam anyways but pay someone else.

I agree though that PC games @ $60 is a pain. CoD started it and others are following suit, but there is always a way to beat the system. Buy with deals or wait.
