Daggerfall's control system

For example, you are forced to use the RMB to swing your weapon. If you could change that, how would you like to do it?
or quick save / load buttons.

What would you like to see?

I have to say RMB is best for me. But having to swing the mouse around makes things weird.

I don't know how I'd change that. Maybe scroll wheel?

Using the mouse allows us to swing in 6 directions; 4 unique.

Using the scroll wheel would limit us to 2 directions. It could use precision movement, the more the scroll wheel moves do different types of swings, but this seems impractical.
Would you be happy using only 2 different swing types? Maybe the thrust and the vertical chop?

I really, really like the mouse swings. I think it's the best combat system (in theory) an elder scrolls game has had. (in practice, Oblivion is better, but that's largely because of technological improvements, not because of the system itself)

One thing I would change, however, is the magic interface.
It works fine the way it is, but it could be SO much more intuitive and convenient. Especially since mages are the indisputably strongest characters; It makes me wish that their playstyle was a bit more streamlined.

the2crow: What changes would you make to the magic interface? Spell hot keys? Other things?

"Swinging the mouse" is precisely why I played Daggerfall for about four hours and then quit.

I would immediately play Daggerfall if there were a patch to get around that combat system.

Well... while i was thinking of it... there IS autohotkey. You can use it to make a keypress call up different swings.

As for me, I want an Always Run toggle, and Cruise. They would allow me to sip my drink while I run across town.

The reason I asked is because I'm writing an Autohotkey script. So far I've made a quicksave button, run and sneak toggles, and an autofire for the left mouse button so I don't need to click a million times to scroll through inventory. It works for me, not sure whether it will work for everyone. I plan to make it work with DaggerXL too.

I could do something to get rid of using the mouse to swing, but since I need a hand on the mouse to move around I think swinging using the mouse would be the most efficient option.

I should have it finished this weekend. I'll post it after I've tested it a bit with other setups.
