Safe Oldblivion Download

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:39 pm

I wanted to download Oldblivion because my graphics card svcks (GeForce 6150 LE) and can barely run vanilla. I tried downloading it from oldblivion.com , but according to Nortan Anti-virus it had a trojan horse in the oldblivion.exe, and deleted the .exe, so I couldn't play it. I also tried it from Fileplanet, but the same thing happened.

Anyone know where I can download Oldblivion safely?

I downloaded this one and scanned it for viruses: http://www.oldblivion.com/test/oldblivion_0.11t7.zip
AVG didn't find anything amiss.

Thank you very much!

Edit: I downloaded it and extracted it but whenever I click on the .exe a message comes up saying Oblivion encountered a problem and needs to close.

Any ideas?

No idea. I've never needed Oldblivion, and I'm kinda leery of trying it out just to see what happens since it may mess up my settings.

After you ran the oldblivion.exe, did you try running the normal Oblivion.exe? I don't know how or why, but that worked for me on my old laptop.

Assuming you're using the latest patch, did you follow these http://www.oldblivion.com/index.php?page=docs&title=Oldblivion+with+Patch+1.2?

I never got around to downloading the patch; I'll go download that now and then install Oldblivion.

Edit: I have the GOTY edition, does that need to be patched? I tried finding out what version I have but I can't find it anywhere.

Thanks everyone for your help.

...already patched. You still need the fixes etc. Instructions for GOTY are in the link ^^^^.

And thanks for the memory jog. I first played Oblivion with Oldlivion on a crappy lappy years ago. Even got FCOM running on it!!!

I just hope you relaise that your video card is very weak, any the game will properbly still run slow even when using Oldblivion.

With Oldblivion it will depend how his cpu is. Thats always been my problem with oblivion anyway, weak cpu can't handle high lots of npc pathing and AI processing, and of course theres alway Havok physics to worry about also.

If your game still crashes on startup, sounds weird, but try to change the resolution to whatever is the lowest. I remember my computer doing the same thing yours is, after i installed Oldblivion, and when i changed the resolution to the minimum it worked. Then in-game you can change it to whatever your card supports. Also make sure you have no mods installed/activated.
