How are the nords smarter than imperial and Redguards?

A few things.

First we should assume that a races strengths and weeknesses vary region by region. We have no reason to believe that the village idiot/local drunkard/paranoid gravedigger in Vvardenfell or Cyrodiil is a good representation at all to the Nord populus in Skyrim. How long do you think an intelligent Nord would last in Redoran territory?

Second, while "Intelligence" is a singular attribute, the Intelligence we are discussing is hardly singular. Even in the Elder Scrolls universe we have to assume that there are different types of intelligence. I.e., Alchemy is Naturalist Intelligence, Speechcraft is Interpersonal Intelligence, any form of combat, along with Athletics and Acrobatics, would be Bodily-Kinisthetic Intelligence, and etcetera.

That said, assuming they do find magic pointless, bear in mind that physical combat is a great deal easier to use in TES, and to use very effectively and practically, than magic.

On another note, The Norse weren't unintelligent by any of the stretch of the imagination. They pillaged because it was survival. Farming can only go so far in the conditions they dealt with. They also designed some of the best sea vessels of their time.

Everyone forgets that Tiber Septim was a Nord....

I'd say the most magical races are the smartest. Mainly Bretons/Altmer. HOWEVER

The Nords do have Thu'um, which, is indeed magic.

The Nords are barbaric, but that doesn't mean they are stupid (Yes, some smart guys get drunk).

The Nords are actually civilized with their government. They use weapons, because they know how to kick some with weapons.

 The Irish arent descended from the Celts, we are the Celts! Being an Irishman (living in America, unfortunately) I know a thing or two about it. The first generation of the Irish were Englishmen who wanted to break away from Englands oppression and religious intolerance; so they fled to Ireland. These pilgrims over many many years were ransacked by Norse Vikings, who eventually interbred with the Irish. I'd imagine if you trace any Irishman's family tree back a few thousand years you'd find some huge Viking.

Fleeing religious intolerance ??? As far as I know the celtic colonization of Ireland was an ofshoot of the general celtic expansion going in western europe. The Irish celts had the same culture and religion as their english relatives, similar to most celtic oeples of htat time period (600 BC).

The religious intolerance angle is as far as I know more recent : a consequence of the seperation of the eglish church from catholicism, in the XVIth century

I distinctly remember Dagail's Nord assistant.

And the powerful Nord Necromancer from Dagon Fel in Morrowind.
