Wrye Morph compatibility

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:44 pm

I wonder about Wrye Morph compatibility. The readme says:

Compatibility
? Because Wrye Morph completely changes the player's stats on a regular basis, it is likely to be incompatible with mods that are focussed on player stats.
? Leveling
? Leveling is particularly problematic since the wild skill and attribute jumps after morphing deeply confuse Oblivion's leveling system. It's likely that many leveling mods will be even more confused than vanilla itself.

This makes it sound as a certain no no to run it with Progress, Realistic Leveling, Realistic Fatigue? Or is it possible if using it with caution?

Alternatively, are there any other morphing mods that work with such mods - or is recommended?

I tried Wrye Morph for awhile - it has some pretty strict requirements. I made a bunch of posts in its http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/828869-relzbeta-wrye-morph/

I recall being able to use realistic fatigue, but I could be wrong.

Otherwise yeah the reason http://wryemusings.com/Wrye%20Leveling.html was even created was to make that mod playable. So I didn't use Progress and or anything.

Still there is more - like having to use vanilla races only. I wanted to make a character where there was a craggy old bearded nord (RBP) that was possessed by a demon (again RBP). Instant crashes - then using Nord from Vanilla (not bearded by RBP) and not as many crashes but still often - and that was with a pretty thin load order. Also your character classes have to be either vanilla or mod added (mods that add classes) as creating a custom class was another source of crashes.

Now what made testing all this especially frustrating is that you can't test the switching back and forth right off the bat and so have to do the quest to get the ability, so any mods that are required to be loaded from the beginning was frustrating to see if there was compatibility. I recall doing that quest liek 5 times.

Since I could not get the races I wanted to pay right and could not think of a story for vanilla races being the same person - that I wanted to play - I eventually dropped the idea altogether. I remember Wrye saying it was mainly designed for stealing the identity of any vanilla NPC more than what I wanted.

snip

Thanks for the info. Hm, I guess I'll skip it for now as I wouldn't want to be w/o Progress etc., at least not during this play through.

Well yeah Wrye Leveling is required which makes Progress near pointless.

Well, yeah, Wrye Leveling isn't actually required. If it was I wouldn't have asked about Progress/Realistic Leveling compatibility in the first place:

Install Wrye Leveling [Optional]
? Wrye Leveling isn't actually required. However it does resolve the erratic leveling behavior in vanilla style leveling under Wrye Morph.

I use Wrye Morph without Wrye Leveling and have no problems as long as I don't try to bend things. As for custom characters, that isn't a problem if you follow the instructions to make them pre-defined for Wrye Morph. I only ever use custom characters.

What Wrye said about leveling http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/828869-relzbeta-wrye-morph/page__view__findpost__p__14174082:
Leveling: Whatever is used has to completely bypass (really turn off) the usual leveling up progress mechanism in skills etc, otherwise when switching between characters you get inappropriate levelups applied. E.g. if you're a char with high blade and build some blade experience (say about halfway on the blade level up bar), and then switch to a char with low blade, that 50% blade suddenly becomes 200% (or something like that). AFAIK Wrye Leveling is the only thing that bypasses all that, but I haven't checked everything. Maybe the XP leveling mod?

So as I understand it then a smooth leveling mod would not meet that requirement, but ZableBlaze http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/828869-relzbeta-wrye-morph/page__view__findpost__p__14203684 that it worked with Realistic Leveling.

Now this would not be as annoying to test as would RBP was because neither Progress or Realistic Leveling (of nGCD) need to be loaded at the very start of the game and can be added later.

Could also have to do with what your using the mod for. I wanted discreet characters with many different things such as birthsigns. That was not going to work, but would if I were only to steal the identities of NPCs who had no birthsigns to conflict. I also recall Wrye describing the party he created as consisting of souls he stole rather than discreet NPCs with custom stats and so on.

Thanks for finding ZableBlaze's quote. Sounds much more promising now. :) And, yes, if it works as I hope it will only be for very short morphs so don't think leveling would be involved that much. I'll try it out.

I just found this post, very interesting information. Has anyone tested the Oblivion XP leveling mod with wrye morph? I am thinking of changing from nGCD and Progress to Oblivion XP just for Wrye Morph.
