Trailer notes

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 2:23 am

Having just watches the trailer for the first time I must say I'm thoroughly excited about the prospects of the game. I did notice a few things though which I can't work out if I
Seeig it right.

I have just watched it from YouTube on my iPhone as I'm on the way to work so the clarity isn't great and I may have misinterpreted what I was lookin at

Weapon damage. When the axe is thrusters into the skeleton it makes a brilliant bone crushing noise and it looks like the weapon gets temporarily stuck.. Maybe the video was 'held' for a moment.. But dis anyone else notice that? I'm hoping it signifies weapon having impact damage and detrimental results on occasion.

Magic. Seems as though there's much more elaborate animations for two handed mages.. Almost as though he's building up the fireball rather than simply pulling it out of his ass.. I really hope the put thought into this as it would really add to the immersion.

Animations. Love the third person animations.. Reminds me of assassins creed. Wolf looked good but was a little slow!

Love the vid. Bethesda you remain one of my top game companies.

Perhaps the wolf was injured?
Anyway, I too loved the 3rd Person anims.
But I really loved hearing the panting and rattling of equipment as the Dovahkiin ran from the dragon at the start.

I think the axe getting stuck in the enemy was an example of the new finishing move system.

What I really liked is that Bethesda said (via Twitter) all footage was in-game (except the wall at the start). :celebration: :celebration: :celebration:

It has given me hope that Skyrim will have more combat animations and a more interesting magic system. Though it's tough to say from a trailer.

Spells that build up will most certainly be a part of the new 'open hand' magic system.

The part that excited me was the apparel that each character can wear. The level of detail and customization seems to have gone up a notch.
When the character walks through the village it was 'Ahh, finally better than Assassin's Creed!'

Actually i was wondering about the Dragon Shout we heard. It sounded something like "Oou Ski-Tar" While i could go dig up the translator on the gameinformer site to find out if it means anything i can't be bothered just now. Besides i wanna see what others heard before translating it to see if it's related to what it does exactly. Like if it translates as slow down and the effect slows down time or something :)

They just cut before the axe was removed.

I thought the Dovahkiin said "FUS RO DAH!!!" the Force-Push one, as it knocked the Dragon back.

It might be but I swear for a split second afterwards you can see it recovering. Also the fight with the dragon (if Bethesda isn't lying about all footage being gameplay) has the beast reacting to your swings.

Thing that excites me most about that was the fluidity of life of the towns.

I don't know about you lot but when I saw that lit Cathedral, my first thoughts were 'must explore!'

Yeah. You swung the axe down with so much force, it gets lodged in the enemy. And then you pull it back out, of course.

if you watch the video closely you can see that the wolf is actually moving at a decent speed. in the beginning its running towards you and then cuts to its right and then after a short distance cuts to the left all while moving towards you. because its moving towards you but in a side to side angle it has the illusion of not running fast.

On second thought he can also be saying "DU, SKA, D?" and it's swedish for "YOU, SHALL, DIE"

I think, based on the description from the GI and the way I heard it, it is in fact that "fus ro dah" shout. But that would still be a cool one.

Yeah, like everyone else is saying, the Dovahkiin shouts, "Fus Ro Dah!" The one that pushes enemies back.

I'm also super excited. Bethesda can take me places like no other media can. :obliviongate:
I'm 99% sure that the dragon fight was all gameplay.
I paused pretty much every second of the trailer to examine everything, and at some points there are clipping issues (the Dovahkiin's longsword is going through his bicep as he rears back to swing at the dragon) that would only be found within the game and not in some polished-up cinematic trailer.

I love the wolf. It actually looks like one! :celebration:

Oh, and the axe finishing move is probably my second favorite scene (dragon fight first).
I love how the draugr's head gets snapped back.
By the way, that axe is totally of Dwemer make. It has the material and the designs. :flamethrower:

it doesn't stay stuck it semi decapitate the Draugr.

Draugr are decayed body so their body aren't resistant enough.

Well, even though it says etched in stone that skyrim will be the game of the year, they should have an award for the best trailer of the year. Won my vote.
