Can anyone pls tell me if it takes such a long time to get t his interesting quest? You are supposed to receive a letter from her, once that Helseth Blackmail is done with, your reputation with her is 15 (I have completed 3-4 quests from her successfully) and NOT doing that Cursed Robe... I have already completed that Manimarco Lich Soul quest, have started the Lhotun Missing Prince one.

I fail to see how I could have screwed up not to get Barenziah's quest... Maybe questing more for her (though I doubt what I did was not good enough)?

You might need to be a higher level. I'm sure she'll call you eventually, have you done the quest for Elysana?

No I did not do that Robe's quest. I did not do the Robe quest... Thought it would prevent me from doing Barenziah's, but I may have got it wrong?

Btw although I did finish Helseth blackmail (and gave him the letter) the topic Castellian still shows up in my dialog options (the quest should be over, as says on the wiki.

EDIT: OK - I had misread about the Robe quest, doing it was necessary for the Barenziah Book. Sometimes that ques-gramm is not so clear.
