Morrowind Options and Play won't work.

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:16 pm

I had been playing Morrowind on Vista for a few days after finding the games in a box, and it worked decent except for a few mesh problems. However, I just downgraded to XP because Vista was having all sorts of problems running. I installed just Morrowind, and when I click options or play it says "Morrowind has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and when I click for more information it says:

When trying to play = Error Signature - AppName: morrowind.exe AppVer: 1.2.0.722 ModName: morrowind.exe ModVer: 1.2.0.722 Offset: 0029ca61

When trying to go to options = Error Signature - AppName: morrowind launcher.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: morrowind launcher.exe ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 0000c82f

My computer is running with: (writing it just how it looks in the system properties)
Microst Windows Xp
Proffesional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Mobile AMD Sempron™
Processor 3500+
1.79 GHz. 1.87 GB of RAM.

It was working fine on Vista, but now with XP it won't. When I try to run it as Administrator, its asks for a password, and I have no idea what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I welcome you to this forum Daedilus. :wavey:

You should read this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/31-step-by-step-ctd-crash-troubleshooting/ http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/29-known-issues-and-resolutions/ and there is all known information you need to know. :read:

Since you didn't mentioned it before what graphics card do you have installed?
Do you have Morrowind GOTY (Morrowind+Tribunal, Bloodmoon expansions)? Is it Steam version or not?

It would be also a good idea if you could post your DirectX diagnostics and the warnings.txt (found in Morrowind directory) here. :)

Many thanks, Leonardo2.

Ya, I thought I had left some details out. When I posted this, I had been up for near 24 hours and was peeved about the game.

The graphics card is an ATI Radeon, the game is GOTY, but i have no clue what Steam version is, so I might guess no?

Now, as I was looking for how to do the DirectX diagnostics and find the Warnings.txt, I noticed that the icons, meshes and bookart folders are empty, and also, the textures folder only has _land_default.tga in it (don't know if that last one is a problem or not), and still am not sure how to run the diagnostics.

I've already read that pinned thread, but it didn't help me at all.

Like I said in my first post, the game ran decently when I was using Vista except for some mesh problems, so I know my computer is capable, just -shrug-

I think you're gonna to reinstall Morrowind GOTY again, but first uninstall it if you can and reboot your PC.

If you can't remove it you can use the http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-cleaner/download/ and try to fix the Windows registry. Reboot your PC again.

Now you can try to install Morrowind again with a different path let say "C:\game\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind", but not in any "C:\http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=781497&view=findpost&p=11352753" related folders.

Personally, I use both http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-cleaner/download/ and http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/download/ from http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/. They are essential tools to maintain your computer. :user:
