Do you want frozen lakes in Skyrim?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:31 pm

I think it would look very cool with a frozen lake. And if the ice would be clear, you could see some frozen slaughterfish in the ice:)
And if so, maybe we can crack the ice and use the fish as food. Another cool thing would be like a hidden treasure in the ice, like the glass helmet in oblivion, outside anvil :)
What do you think?

If your carrying too much you should start hearing the ice crack if your moving slowly. If you linger too long you could fall through!

Or defined seasons throughout the game so that there is a defined cold and warm season.

I hope the lakes that freeze can be unfrozen with a fire spell.... Because lets say you have to go under in a little hole in the lake.... you can't breath under water so when you jump in... To continue with a topic I made yesterday... you loose stamina then health when you jump into freezing water... But when you want to leave then you'll have to find the hole you took to go under and that would be a pain.... So instead shoot a fire spell up at the ice and that part will mealt....

I'll be very surprised if there aren't. Destructible, interactive ice as a walkable surface, though? I dunno...

It'd be nice if Volkihar vampires could actually reach up and pull you through the ice, as mentioned in http://www.imperial-library.info/content/oblivion-immortal-blood.

This sounds nice, like a flamethrower acting spell.

The ice should also be slippery ^_^

Thats a no brainer, I answered yes to both. How else will the "Ice Vampires" Come up through the ice as mist and grab you? (THEY BETTER BE IN BETHESDA!)

I don't see why they wouldn't be in. Seems like a pretty obvious feature to include in an icy northern territory.

Not so sure about 'frozen slaughterfish in the ice' though. Generally speaking, the whole lake doesn't turn to ice, just a layer on the surface.

I remember hearing about a 'glacier' zone, so I figure it will be in. And if you could crack ice.. that would be way awesome.

didn't think about that actually, but maybe we can see them swim under the ice. And those ice vampires or what they are?
is it the ones at 01:40 in the trailer? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbmBYT8Dwf4

No, those are Ice Wraiths. We don't know whether or not the Volkihar (or any vampires) will be in the game. Lots of discussion in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1168093-vampirewerebeast/ though.

No, I believe that is somthing else entirely.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Vampire#Skyrim

Also it talks about it in my favorite Ob book "Immortal Blood"

The next day, he did return with more questions, these ones very specific. He wanted to know about the vampires of eastern Skyrim. I told him about the most powerful tribe, the Volkihar, paranoid and cruel, whose very breath could freeze their victims' blood in the veins. I explained to him how they lived beneath the ice of remote and haunted lakes, never venturing into the world of men except to feed.

Movarth Piquine listened carefully, and asked more questions into the night, until at last he was ready to leave.

"I will not see you for a few days," he said. "But I will return, and tell you how helpful your information has been."

True to his word, the man returned to my chapel shortly after midnight four days later. There was a fresh scar on his cheek, but he was smiling that grim but satisfied smile of his.

"Your advice helped me very much," he said. "But you should know that the Volkihar have an additional ability you didn't mention. They can reach through the ice of their lakes without breaking it. It was quite a nasty surprise, being grabbed from below without any warning."

"How remarkable," I said with a laugh. "And terrifying. You're lucky you survived."

I personally think it would be a poor choice for Bethesda not to put Werewolves and ATLEAST Vampires in. They are so popular.

What if you're a nord (and they keep/ bring back the frost immunity) would you be immune to the stamina reduction?

Ice covered, with some weak spots that you'd fall through. Make getting out nigh impossible via the slippery Ice or even trying to find the hole again. Water should be COLD, so besides water breathing, you need a heat source. And a penalty once you're out due to being wet in freezing temps. Also, how about some cracking or booming (if you haven't heard either...it's freaky, yet cool), and some snow discoloration for slushy or weak spots.

Oh, and I'd like to hear some trees cracking from the cold as well! (heh, if only to make the gun haters think there's a gun in the game ;)
