I have a dual core processor at the moment, and I have to say its nice to have that little more speed. For the moment, I believe that most people (the average population) doesn't need 4 cores. Applications like Video Editing, Gaming Consoles or Servers that require lots of speed will benefit from 4 cores (or more if thats the way its goes) but for most, it would be wasted. Ive been running duals since their introduction in 2005 and i never saw the reason to upgrade to 4 cores. I dont think youll see any difference in running quad on this game maybe 5-10 fps i dont know.

It's not possible to make a mod that will allow multi-core use, that has to be written into the executable to begin with. But Oblivion does make limited use of dual-cores. Very limited though.

That will be changing soon enough. The newer games that will be coming out will make be able to make use of quad-cores. Civilization 5 for instance recommends that you have a quad-core, with dual-core being a minimum requirement. But Oblivion won't benefit from a quad as it's only been designed with dual-cores in mind.

Actually Oblivion wasn't even designed with dual-cores in mind. All of the stuff in the ini file is pure placebo that doesn't actually do anything substantive. OBSE plugins like OSR tap into some limited areas where that's possible, but to do it well and truly right would take a whole new game executable. Which isn't coming until TES V :)

It already has, games already use Quad cores so it's a good time to upgrade.

From my experience;

Mafia II
Metro 2033
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Just Cause 2
