Plugin cleaning.

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:53 pm

For whatever reason, after removing identical to master records and undeleting and disabling references, when I hit the X to close the program, no dialog prompts me if I want to save the mod. -_-

I don't know what's happening. -_-

Use "Ctrl-S" to save the plugins.

Thank you. :)

Also, how do I enable crash report/log/dump for Oblivion?

Are you certain no errors showed up in the messages tab that might be preventing it from saving?

Another question.

I want to clean Cobl_Glue.esp, and when loading in TES4EDIT, should I check every .esp related to cobl, like Cobl Silent Equip Misc.esp, MMM-Cobl.esp, OOO 1.32-Cobl.esp...?

From TESIV: Positive: "Check the ONE plugin you want to clean and all mods it is expected to load with (i.e., plugins it patches)
>> notes: 1) The plugin should be the latest loading plugin checked. 2) TES4Edit automatically loads a plugins dependencies."

Well with cobl and other FCOM/OOO/Overhaulish type stuff I'd copy and paste the results of what it wants to clean in the thread and ask if it is safe to clean - not all are and I think COBL is considered one of those.

You don't have to save each time you clean either - just uncheck the esp in the splash screen before closing.

I was having a persistant CTD and, after cleaning some mods, it disappeared. I hope it will increase my overall stability.

Thanks to all who contribute to make this game so freaking awesome. :)

Another question about cleaning.

I'm doing some tests for cleaning my mod list, and I'd like to share my method with everyone who is interested in this feature, because I do not really fully understand how to do it. I have read the information in the CS Wiki and followed the instructions in TESIV: Positive and I've been able to clean all the known dirty mods present in the wiki page. Then, there are other known plugins that sould never be cleaned, so I did not touch them. Now, when it comes to the ones that are not in either list, what's the procedure to follow? I use Wrye Bash to see which are the masters of a single plugin, then I open TES4EDIT and uncheck all, then I check them in the order they are loaded in Wrye Bash, I apply the "Conflict status inherited by parent" filter, then "remove identical to masters records" and "undelete and disable references", and then close and save if that proceeds. Ok.

But some records should not be removed even if identical to masters. How to know which ones?
And should I only load the masters listed in Wrye Bash or there are other masters/plugins one plugin can depend on and should be loaded?
If my method is correct, can I just say that "this and this and that plugin are clean" to other people, saving time to other people?

I think these are my doubts, for now. Thanks to all for reading.

Using Undelete and Disable is almost always safe. I cannot think of a reason why it would not be. Just doing that would help with many dirty edits, and it does not have a dependencies issue. If the plugin is relatively simple, maybe to the point where you can see that it has duplicates in it and what not, and it does not have dependencies, cleaning it should be okay. If you see edits you did not expect reported, leave it alone. Also, keep in mind that some mods leave duplicate records because the author expects that those mods would be used alongside other mods that would affect that record, especially if the scripts depend on the record being a certain value (i.e., certain magic overhauls.) The inexact nature of a plugin's design is the reason why we recommend leaving cleaning to the authors. If you have a particular plugin in mind, you could simply ask about it here.

Mods that I almost never think twice about cleaning are new items mods. There is no reason for the new items mods I have cleaned to have duplicate records, so I clean them before I make a merged plugin out of them.

Do not clean plugins by loading several into TES4Edit at once. They must all be cleaned in isolation, except for patches, which you really should be leaving alone since you don't appear to have a solid understanding of what's going on yet.

I think he meant he loads the plugins that wrye bash were showing as masters, which TES4Edit will do automatically anyways.
