[WIPz / RELz] Reneer's NPC Sneak Mod

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:28 pm

Reneer's NPC Sneak Mod 0.91 Released!

0.91 - Fixes issues with creatures being able to sneak. Fixues issues with NPCs being slightly transparent when not sneaking.

NPCs slightly transparent, nice to not have that. Creatures being able to sneak.... I never thought about it until you wrote it as a fix; why not let animals sneak? Being jumped by a sneaking wolf would probably scare me from my wits :ahhh:

Thank you for you mods!

Cheers!

This mod rocks! I saw a funny blur out of the corner of my eye in the IC Market, and turned to look at a barely visible Kahjit sneaking around! Way to go Reneer! :-)

Bit of a necro, but I got a strange bug with this mod earlier today. I was fighting bandits in Vilverin when I noticed five or six small gold rings on the ground. They were 0 weight and 0 value. Using FormID finder, I discovered they were from this mod. They also were said to be missing meshes, although they didn't show up as missing mesh warnings, but as rings. http://img31.imageshack.us/i/npcsneak.png/. I have also had occasional problems with some animals, especially boars, being entirely invisible; not sure if this mod caused it or not, though.
I deactivated this earlier because it felt unnecessary. As cool as it was to see, or rather not see, the occasional sneaking NPC being invisible, it really didn't factor into gameplay too much. The only NPCs that consistently sneak are Tamriel Travellers, and there's usually no reason for them to avoid me. Your mod does what it says it will, and does it well, but without another mod/more features to make more NPCs sneak, it doesn't apply often.

True enough. I just did it because someone out there requested it, and I knew I could make the mod work. I'm not about to delve into changing NPCs to sneak more often (though I would assume it would be easily doable). Thank you for trying out the mod. :)

I'm currently experiencing NPCs who engage me in a fight turning transparent without being in sneak mode.

I'm noticing the stronger an enemy they are the more transparent and up to invisible they become.

When I say they don't appear to be sneaking that means no crouching or attempting to hide - they pull swords and run at me.

This could be a mod conflict - need to get actor details on them while they are trying to kill my character, but wanted to make sure before I pursue investigating further that this is a designed feature.

Thanks

Are there mods out there that make attacking NPCs try to sneak attack on you?

It's not a mod conflict. Another reading of the mod's description: "or if the player has a lower Sneak skill than their combatant (but only for several seconds, then the effect disappears on the combatant)." So, yes, it's happening by design.

Lovely, thank you for sharing Reneer. I've never been sneak attacked by an NPC before, hopefully I'm in for a surprise.

I could be wrong here, but I don't think an NPC will be actually sneaking up on you. They just attack you with an invisibility effect for a few seconds. Like for example, the bandits and highwaymen that attack you from the road from out of the blue. I don't ever recall an NPC sneaking up on you in vanilla. So I'm guessing there's another mod that does just that, but I don't know though because I haven't been answered yet.

I'd be cool to have that though. While sneaking up on an npc or creature, his buddy could've spotted you and is attempting to sneak on you too and you'd have no clue. All at once you went from having the upper hand to being attacked by two at the same time. that'd be epic. I used to play a game called Dark Ages of Camelot, an MMORPG that actually uses the same engine as Oblivion. Anyways, I always played as an assassin type character who would sneak up on people. The other two enemy sides had similar characters so a lot of times there would end up being what was coined "stealth wars." Good times, gooood times. If that could be replicated by use of this mod, that would be just.... well... epic.

It would be nice if rogue npcs actually could try and pickpocket you too. It would be based on AGI/Security (AGI like dexterity, theirs and yours; a roll check vs their nimbless to grab, your ability or lack thereof to notice/feel it). If noticed with a warning message or some such immersiveness cue (you feel a bump, you feel a brushing....), and you would have legal right to attack or option only to SHOUT (the SHOUT mod) for help to get legal help to come arrest them.

Would be cool, but a little beyond the scope of this mod I think.

I wasn't suggesting this mod, just something for someone to do if possible.
