Mods that are balanced for OOO

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:38 pm

Everything's in the topic. I'm always wary about installing quest/dungeon mods because I know I'll encounter unbalanced enemies and quest rewards. Right now the only mod I've got other than those that modify gameplay and aesthetics is Integration: The Stranded Light, and that only because I've already got LAME and RBP and it seemed too highly praised to pass up. (and I'm not too worried since LAME and RPB are all about balance, lol)

And here's an aside question... I think I'm leveling a bit too slow with OOO and Realistic Leveling. Any suggestions about that? Or should I just svck it up; it's been a long time since I played Oblivion and I was probably leveling way too fast the last time.

svck it up! Or use Progress to set the level rate speed. You can customize it however you want.

Depends on what you mean with balanced. OOO uses OMOBS stats for weapons so weapons based on vanilla stats will be weak in comparison. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes4Mod:FCOM has a list of mods/patches with OMOBS stats.

Personally, I like:

Adonnay's Elven Weaponry and Classical Weaponry
Painkiller_Rider's Gift Of Kynareth and Forgotten Shields

I would love it if someone released and OMOBS balanced-patch for Adonnay's mods. I have GoK, but I think I might drop the Forgotten Shields this time around...

Not much need for the former IMO although I think the chance of criticals is too high - but they come with ingame menus where you can tone it down. Gift of Kynareth is always in my mod list. Awesomeness incarnate.

Cool, that is convenient. That means all I need to worry about is changing the names of the scripts attached to the weapons so that I can merge Adonnay's two weapon mods together.

Obviously that's up to yourself but I'd advise against a merge.
The two mods are entirely different in structure. One adds weapons that are buy-able only, the other is more of a treasure hunt with some really nasty guardians.
Just my opinion though :)
I have to agree with The Gift of Kynareth. One of the more difficult quests with just about the best reward the modded game offers.

Ah, snap. I am not a fan of the buy-able weapons thing. It takes forever for my character make enough money to feel even remotely comfortable paying for something that is not a necessity, a utility or a spell. I certainly do not have time to wait for that stage to come around this summer (which is almost gone.) We'll see how far I get with this new build, but there is a good chance the new item mods will not be included until next year. :L

Good night all...

While Elven Weaponry indeed has a shop it also has treasure hunting and some really nasty guardians. Otherwise I wouldn't have listed it, because the ones I listed are the "questmods" with nice risk vs. reward that I like and also think blend in well with OOO. So in fact they are rather alike - except Elven Weaponry also has a shop. If you haven't met the guardian of Ithildin you've missed something.

Thinking of it, I should also add:

Gah Falquan Umarile - Awesome weapon replacer for Umaril, for those who run KotN. Fits perfectly with OOO as it has Ayleid Meteoric Iron Weaponry by the same author merged.

Mighty Umbra - Weapon/quest replacer for Umbra. Combined with OOO's boosting of her in FCOM_MightyUmbra it makes for a challenging experience to say the least.

I didn't know that. But isn't there a version of Ayleid Weaponry already merged into OOO - and so wouldn't that mean conflcits?

I meant that OOO has those merged and Gah Falquan Umarile is made by the same author in the same style so it* fits nicely.

* "It" meaning Gah Falquan Umarile. ;)

If you feel you are levelling too slowly in OOO (I had the same problem - I was ploughing through the main quest and I feared I'd only just be level 4 before reaching the Great Gate!) then try using the levelled rate x2 .esp which is packaged with OOO. I've found my levelling much more managable now I'm using that.

Nothing wrong with the included Level Rates Modified esp's but if running OBSE, Progress is preferable IMO. It comes with pre-made templates so easy to "mimic" Level Rates x2, for example, but there's also some really neat plugins for it which I personally wouldn't want to go without. For example, all my melee chars wield two handed weapons which is "punished" in vanilla in that it levels slower to wield slower weapons - and Speed-Based Skill Progression takes care of that. Plus it's completely customizable if feeling Alchemy levels too fast or Restoration too slow etc.

That sounds great. I tend to use two handers as well. Thanks for that OMOBS compatibility link, though it unfortunately doesn't list all that many mods...

I'll look into that first one. The Mighty Umbra sword is beautiful, and I plan on using it as a replacer, but it seemed like the mod itself had some bugs that were not addressed by the author. Plus, my character is not much for the "evil" stuff. On the other hand, Ayleid Meteoric Iron Weaponry boasts some of my favorite weapons of modified Oblivion, and I do indeed run KotN.

I've seen bugs reported, but I've played through it two times with no issues (perhaps some occasional hicup with the messages from the sword at most IIRC). And if wanted the quest can be seen as the cleansing of evil rather. But most of all: it's beyond hardcoe - if your char isn't a master swordsman w/o help from items etc. it is suicide to embark on it. Very special quest mod - a masterpiece IMO.

Oh, cool. I have really wanted to try it out. It will be a while before my character can embark on that journey, but that sword is worth looking forward to. ^____^

Happy gaming!
