Playing Oblivion First?

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 2:38 pm

I've recently picked up the Elder Scroll Series and I'm about halfway through Oblivion. I havent' downloaded the new content yet. My question is do my actions carry over to Skyrim such as games like Mass Effect. When Skyrim comes out, do I have to create a whole new character and start from level 1?

New character, from scratch, nothing carries over. 200 years is a rather large gap to bridge and go "Your character's next adventure..." when only some of the races even live that long. :)

Ah ok, yeah 200 years is a long time. Thanks for the reply.

The elder scrolls doesn't really utilize that type of RPG mechanic its nice but it probably wouldn't fit the universe of the elder scrolls

There hasn't yet been an Elder Scrolls game in which you played as a character from a previous game. Skyrim is particularly ill-suited to something like that because it takes place 200 years after Oblivion. I mean, granted, an elf might be able to live that long...
So, yeah, you'll be starting a new character. Skyrim sounds like it's going to be way too different in interface and structure for data to carry over between the two, anyway.

EDIT: Multininja'd.

For the most part, sequels, even most true sequels that pick up where the previous game left off, start you off at the beginning instead of letting you import past characters. Mass Effect is one of the exceptions

You could come up with a little story line for your character so that he lives that long but kind of has to "get back in the saddle", or link your new character as a descendant of your oblivion character... if you're that involved. And as you're already here on the forums... :deal: haha.
Yah, as it's been answered nothing carries over.

It's actually one of my favorite things to do in TES. Make new characters. :D I've made tons.

I started out on Morrowind several years ago. Loved it ever since.

Isn't Mass Effect like the only game to really have that system?

Mass Effect and Dragon Age Origins both games from Bioware.
