Totally worth all the trouble. I just started today, and it's a better, more realistic game than Oblivion. :foodndrink:

@Lumpy The game was available on the elderscrolls site for free since the 2009.

From Bethesda Blog (http://bethblog.com/index.php/2009/07/09/daggerfall-now-available-for-free/)

Daggerfall: Now available for free!
By: gstaff | Posted: July 9th, 2009 | 112 Comments

Five years ago, to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of The Elder Scrolls, we released The Elder Scrolls: Arena as a free download. If you do the math, that means the series is now celebrating its 15th Anniversary. So despite saying we’d never do it, we’ve decided to release The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall as a FREE download too!

One thing to keep in mind — the game is over 10-years-old and we’re releasing it “as is.” In other words, we’re not providing customer support or technical support on the game at this point. That being said, I successfully started up the game running DOSBox and following QA superstar Mike Mazzuca’s detailed walkthrough for installing the game. Follow the directions and you should be in good shape.

Having heard many stories of how you guys wanted to get your hands on the game, we’re excited that many of you will get to experience Daggerfall for the first time. Head here to download the game. Enjoy!

I actually enjoyed Daggerfall more than Oblivion (though the story in Oblivion is more interesting). I play Daggerfall with high expectations of Skyrim.

One can change the setting to actually follow current game control. Here, one can look at my setup as an example: http://i534.photobucket.com/albums/ee350/Qawsed_Asap/Control.jpg

To change to mouse view (as in using the mouse to look everywhere), go to main menu (Esc button), Click Controls, then Mouse, then click the View option in the mouse control. Good idea to know the "Activate Cursor" button so one can toggle the cursor to click on switches and levers.

As for attacking, basic melee atttack is holding the "Swing Weapon" button and moving the Mouse at any direction.

Yeah, I missed that option at first. Follow Qawsed's instructions and you'll be able to move and look around like in modern first person games.

Well, one can just use the installer found at the second comment, which is right here:

Here ya go: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Cheats#Patch_v2.12.2B_Cheat_Codes

Though I recommend just trying to escape or run away to the way out rather than resort to cheating. At least try looking at the http://www.izhtex.com/tes2/walkthru/privat.htm.

Don't resort to god mode yet. On your first playthrough, you're just expected to sprint out of Privateer's Hold like a cowardly madman. The original Daggerfall game even came with a walkthrough of the first dungeon so you could sprint out more effectively. Had it not, many of us would still be in there to this day. It's only about a five minute journey (if that) if you know where you're going. Privateer's Hold is actually a pretty small dungeon, as Daggerfall dungeons go, so you can come back later or on future playthroughs and clean it out fairly easily.

How did you get the turn left and turn right to be "Right" and "Left"?
