I have no clue what's going on.

I haven't had these problems with Daggerfall before, but I just attempted to do two Mages Guild quests. The first one involved going to a certain residence but when I found the residence, it was locked and I couldn't get in... no matter how long I waited. Then, I went on a dungeon crawl for some powerful scroll. I found the scroll, but when I brought it back to the quest giver, talking to him or asking about quests only opened up a normal dialogue menu. Reloading, waiting, and coming back later do not do anything to help. I still have the item I needed and the quest is still in my journal, so I don't think I failed it, but I don't know what to do about this. I did install some mods for Daggerfall (quest mods, eye of Argonia), but that was a while back and I'm just noticing problems now. Could it be just bad luck with some of Daggerfall's bugs? Could the problem be related to those mods? If so, what should I do?

Getting locked out of a quest location in a house like that is a well-known problem; I think one of the quest mods is supposed to fix that, but I'm not sure it's something that can truly ever be fixed entirely. You should probably get an Open spell of some kind (the Spell Maker will allow you to make one of the absolute minimum power if you have access to it, which is sufficient to open any door in a town) to allow you to bypass that problem later.

I've never heard of the second one, it might be a mod thing, but running across yet another bug in Dagerfall wouldn't surprise me in the least considering how many have already been found. If you saved before taking the quest (always very, very advisable) you'll probably have to reload that and get another quest. Sorry, but when you run across a Daggerfall quest bug that's usually the only recourse available aside from accepting the penalty for quest failure. :(

I always save, and keep that related save, before taking a quest so I can easily reload, but what struck me as odd is that, after I reloaded due to the first problem, the second problem occured. The two quests were back-to-back. I'm only hesitant to reload again because of the cool dungeon crawl I experienced. :glare: Here's to hoping a problem doesn't occur again, then.

The other elusive reward bug involves any quests which you complete procedurally, such as the counterfeit gold quest where you can return the bars to the questgiver one at a time. Tends to crash for me if I try to give all four of them at once, and he just ignores me if I drop the others from my inventory and try to present them one after the other.

As for the first quest, did you try lockpicking/bashing the door open? I'm pretty sure it's normal for some quests to involve locked residences - usually some pretty resilient doors at that, so I'd recommend you keep an open spell at the ready for such an occurrence.

Oh, it's funny that you should bring this up because I had the Thieves Guild questgiver ignoring me earlier today. I was so close to that promotion too! I suppose there's only one thing to say:

StoneFrog is right: doors can have the status 'locked', indeed including the doors of certain residences.

- pick the lock
- bash the door
- use magic -> there are spells which open locked doors

the first two options will likely get the local guards on alert. It's not a problem if you are quick enough to run out of the town without getting caught.
