Rage

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 3:25 pm

Last night I was modding oblivion added all the mods I wanted. Then ran the game with the script extender obse and kaspersky internet security 2010 blocks it saying its a keylogger. I try to trust it and spent a while trying to figure this out but nothing will seem to stop it from blocking the game. This is very frustrating and making me rage because this was not doing it before.

Well, one of OBSE's functions is to map keys, so in a certain way, the antivirus is "right". You should configure an exception for OBSE, I guess...

...(and either I'm right, or I've just said something stupid. Somebody will tell me...).

Antiviruses are often wrong. Only trust them for things you don't know about. Benrahir has a the right fix; make an exception in Kaspersky for OBSE or Oblivion if needed.

You may need to add the DLLs that get loaded too. I'd start with the OBSE DLLs that are in the OBSE folder in the data folder.

Just add OBSE to the "Do not scan list"

or make an exception for the whole folder.

If exceptions aren't working, try turning off Kaspersky's heuristics engine (if it has the option). If this fixes it, frankly I'd advise replacing Kaspersky with an antivirus program where the exceptions actually work; you don't want to be running without heuristics, in general.

FWIW: In my most recent personal review of free AV software, Microsoft Security Essentials came out on top. (Seriously!)

Agreed. I swore by AVG free for years, but v9 seems to be a real resource hog and the virus definition downloads kept failing. A friend recommended MSE even though he hates all things M$!

Things have been silky smooth and snag free ever since. Scans are quicker too!
