Another interesting one to look at is Istaria.
+You can have an unlimited -human- character for free (you can create other races but will be requested politely to delete them if you are on a free account).
+There is no cash shop.
+You can pick up and level all of the 25+ http://istaria.wikia.com/wiki/Schools (classes). You could max them all with enough time spent. 2x the level of the skill to keep a skill for use between schools, so a level 8 cleric can keep level 4 skills, even as an Elemental Archer. Leveling up many -different- schools increases Adventure Rating (increasing exp required to level -all- schools), so early on it can be better to focus on a few rather than a great many. Leveling up many *crafting* schools, however, has no downside, and is in fact encouraged since they actually boost your statistics, which can help out in combat!
+There is an in-depth crafting system, it's a very key feature of the game, and probably one of the best I've seen.
+There was an update to add more low-to-mid level quests at some point, so plenty to do.
+Active RP server, if you're into that.
+(Not free account) Playable dragon and specific dragon schools. Eventually, flight - loooong quest to obtain that, though
+Devs listen, and respond, to the community through the forums.
-As free account, can't play as other races. However, you can do everything they can do, except some specific-to-dragon schools.
-As free account, can't own a plot. This isn't important until you have higher-level crafting, and still not important if you get in a good guild - they tend to leave some extra storage silos open for people to share (---for crafting. There are normal storage vaults in towns).
-No pvp (this is explained in the lore).
-Smaller population, but many willing to help.
-Need to run a bit, a few specific locations are no longer bound automatically for teleportation.
If you *do* decide to try it out:
*I recommend getting the Map Pack 3.5 (this and more are found on the official Istaria forum under Player Customizations).
*Investing in a Standard Sandstone Cargo Disk (craft level 5 or 10) is also recommended - it makes crafting much more enjoyable by being able to carry a lot more resources! There's usually a few cheap at the auctioneer.
If you don't try it out, well...best of luck on you search!
