Spiders svck

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 6:15 pm

I'm actually kinda concerned about the inclusion of spiders in Skyrim, as sad as that sounds, haha. Of course I'll just svck it up and buy Skyrim anyways. But do any of you hate spiders as much as I do?

I HATE spiders, I have a phobia of them.

If fighting them is anything like fighting that giant spider shelob or w/e in Lord Of The rings then im going to be [expletive] myself.

1. Go to a psychologist.
2. Talk with friends and family about your problem.
3. Learn to live with it.
4. Mod it out.
5. Don't play Skyrim.

Those are your choices. BGS aren't going to get rid of spiders in Skyrim, which I'm glad for. They are a terrifying, scary, but cool monster.

Maybe this is just an ignorant thought of someone who doesn't know what it's like to have a phobia, but I think it might be pretty cool to have points in the game where I was genuinely scared. :D

This topic again? We had like 4 as soon as the Giant Tarantula screenshot was released. It's virtual.
I hope some of you go in a cave and then a giant spider jumps down from the cave ceiling. Bahaha.

I like spiders in RL. I didn't think the spider in the video was vary scary either.
I would rather have a darker lair, with more webbing, and knowing that at any minute, a large hairy spider will descend from above, perhaps right behind me.

Please no. :(

Oh yes. That would be glorious!

I remember when I first played Oblivion around midnight in the dark of my house with a large flat screen tv and a rocking chair that had sounds coming from the sides. I was just leaving the prison cell when that Zombie came at me from the corner. It freaked me out and it was great!

Guys, I fully realize that my fear of spiders is irrational, hence why it is called a PHOBIA. Also, I've already stated I'm buying the game, so yes, I am planning on 'svcking it up'. I'm just curious if anyone else shares this irrational and silly fear like I do. While the Radscorpions in Fallout freaked me out, it's much easier to overcome my fear considering I have rocket launchers, miniguns and other explosives up the wazoo. Skyrim will be more terrifying because I'll be up close and personal with a sword. I'm hoping that as a sneak character I'll just nail them from afar with an arrow and drop them easily, but that one in the trailer looks like it would need a lot more arrows than that, haha.

I understand how you feel. I used to be terrified of spiders,i have been for as long as i can remember, same with heights.
I'm 35 now....and one day i thought to myself it's time to challenge your fears.
Now as regarding heights,i'm still terrified, not had much luck there so far.
But with spiders,i'm still fearfull of them, but not as bad as i used to be.
I thought to myself...instead of fearing them, why not show an interest and appreciate them.....this was tough to do....i won't lie.
Anyway.....i made myself watch spiders ,be it TV programs or in the garden.
I would watch them make their webs, catch their food wrap it up etc.
If i was at a save distance,i didn't mind so much....it was fasinating to watch.
I'm at the stage now where i can watch them,be it in games, the garden or on TV....i tried to change my fear into admiration.
I have even picked up smaller spiders, but when it comes to average or bigger ones,i still freak out a little, but i'm able to compose myself better.
One day i know i'll be able to pick bigger spiders up.
Everyone is different, and i feel sorry for people who have a strong fear for spiders, even to the extent of hating them in games.
I have slowly lessed my fear, though it's still there,it's not as bad.
Maybe others should try what i did.......i'm no expert,i just wanted to mention what i did,to ease the fear a little.
Just try and watch them, try and turn that fear to interest....like i said i'm now at the point where i can watch them in the garden, and it's really interesting to see how they make webs etc. :)
What works for one person doesn't mean it will work for another....but either way,a fear has to be faced in my opinion.
Sorry to have waffled on :)

Did you know: that J.R.R. Tolkein was bitten by an extremely poisonous spider as a baby? It heavily influenced his writings, especially for the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, where giant and terrible spiders are present.

Yeah, he writes about a character who pretty much massacres them all. That was probably very theraqeutic for him.

Although I really love the Elder Scrolls, I'll probably won't buy the game because of this...

The fact that I would be scared as hell constantly just because the devs had to include them.... It simply ruins it for me..
One day I saw the picture of the Skyrim spider and I was tottaly freaked... And as far as I remember it was far worse than the creatures wich were featured in Dragon Age and Tomb Raider Underworld.. wich I still hate but can live with....
It'll probably take some days, weeks or whatever before I even get the courage to watch the trailer..
I'll probably be playing Mass Effect 3 or the new Assassins Creed around christmas... cuz now I'm more excited about those games. xD

Nah, never had a problem with Spiders. When I was in elementary school we went to a reptile/spider park and I had a tarantula crawl from my hand to my shoulder, that was cool as hell for 10 year old me, except the spider pooped in my hand and bit me right after. Still though, I had fun there.

I'm terrified of those mosquitos with the really long legs though...[censored] those things.

i'm scared of spiders, sharks, women, people, conversations, handshakes, hellos, goodbyes, heights, flying, emotions, relationships, prison, hospitals, death, my own blood, and fear itself.

but obviously these things have to be dealt with, except maybe for sharks and prison.

I hope we all encounter that kinda thing, it's one of the things I look forward to in Skyrim. Spiders are creepy and that's exactly their role in the games that feature them.
I'm not afraid (chorus: I'm not afraid
..) lol
