DESCRIPTION:
The iconic NCR Combat Ranger Armor is one of the best-looking suits in the game; however, it has several problems (such as rifle holstering bug) and its stats are a bit substandard for a hand-crafted, limited-issue suit. This mod addresses these issues, and improves the armor's stats a bit without making it overpowered. It also gives the player a chance to de-identify the armor suit if they have the appropriate Repair skill and gather the necessary ingredients.
DETAILS:
Bugfixes:
- The armor has been marked as "has a backpack", so rifles won't clip through the trenchcoat when holstered.
- Gopher's Neck Cover eliminates the exposed neck when the character crouches while wearing the armor and the helmet. Original mod here: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39509
Visuals:
- Default armor uses the "A7 Duster" textures by iz FALCON zi. His CR-HD pack that includes other versions of the texture can be found here: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40691
- "Obfuscated" and "Defaced" variants use CR-HD textures that I altered.
- "Altered" variant uses the "Combat Ranger Gear" texture by xxfmanxx. Original mod can be found here: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37094
*************** ALL NECESSARY MESHES AND TEXTURES ARE INCLUDED IN THIS MOD, AND NO ADDITIONAL DOWNLOADS ARE NEEDED ***************

Survival Bonus: +10 (from the water backpack)
Radiation Resistance Bonus: +10
Value: 9500 caps
Can be repaired with: any Combat Armor mark, NCR Ranger Patrol Armor and other suits of NCR Ranger Combat Armor, or any Medium armor with Jury-Rigging perk.

Can be repaired with: any Combat Armor Helmet mark, other NCR Ranger Combat Helmets, or any Light helmet with Jury-Rigging perk.
If your character's Repair skill is over 25, you can attempt to remove NCR markings from the armor, and make it non-faction. You will need to gather some materials, and use a Workbench to modify your suit. Depending on your Repair skill, you have an option to do a better quality job than just scraping off the marks or smearing paint on them; the appearance of the modified suit will reflect that. Once you alter a suit, you cannot paint the NCR marks back on it.
NCR Combat Ranger Armor (defaced):
Requires Repair 25+
Ingredients: NCR Combat Ranger Armor, Paint Gun, Duct Tape, Wonderglue
Result: A quick and dirty job for someone who doesn't really know what they are doing. The results won't look good. At all. But at least people who hate NCR won't shoot you on sight anymore.
NCR Combat Ranger Armor (obfuscated):
Requires Repair 50+
Ingredients: NCR Combat Ranger Armor, Paint Gun, Abraxo Cleaner, Turpentine, Wonderglue
Result: An OK alteration job. Doesn't look too bad, though not ideal either.
NCR Combat Ranger Armor (altered):
Requires Repair 75+
Ingredients: NCR Combat Ranger Armor, Paint Gun, Abraxo Cleaner, Turpentine, Wonderglue, Box of Detergent
Result: If you are handy, you can do a really good job cleaning up and repairing the suit. Some might say that it will look better than the original.
All non-faction versions of the suit have the same stats as the original suit (however, the Defaced version is less durable, and all non-faction versions are a little less valuable). They can be repaired with the same items as the original suit. They can also be used to repair the original suit, or each other. All your companions can wear and carry the non-faction versions of the suit.
INSTALLATION:
- Extract the contents of the archive into your New Vegas' Data folder.
- Activate the ESP with the New Vegas loader or FOMM/NVMM.
- If your character or any companion is already wearing the NCR Combat Ranger Armor and/or helmet, take them off and put them back on to receive new bonuses.
UNINSTALLATION:
- If your character or any companion is already wearing the NCR Combat Ranger Armor and/or helmet, take them off and save the game in a new slot.
- Deactivate the ESP with the New Vegas loader or FOMM/NVMM.
- Remove all meshes and textures shipped with the mod, if desired.
FAQ:
Q: Why duplicate the "spotter" perk and not use Night Vision?
A: Because I wanted the helmet to have an interesting and useful bonus. Night Vision is annoying and so badly implemented in NV that it's useless.
Q: Why did you use the CR-HD "A7 Duster" textures for the default suit?
A: Because they look the closest to the promo and box art.
Q: The "defaced" suit looks pretty bad! And the "obfuscated" suit isn't great either...
A: That's because your character is bad at repairs. Get better at repairs and you can make an "altered" suit that looks a lot nicer.
Q: Is the mod compatible with..?
A: The mod is compatible with anything that doesn't modify the NCR Combat Ranger Armor or NCR Combat Ranger Armor Helmet.
Q: Can I use replacement textures for the default NCR Combat Ranger Armor with this mod?
A: Yes, but if you have a retextured default suit, it won't match up very well with the non-faction versions.
Q: Can I replace the textures for the non-faction variants?
A: Yes. They are located in Data\textures\combatrangergear\combatranger.
- "Altered" (good quality suit): combatranger.dds, combatranger_n.dds.
- "Obfuscated" (OK quality suit): combatrangem.dds, combatrangem_n.dds
- "Defaced: (bad quality suit): combatrangel.dds, combatrangel_n.dds
Q: Can I use elements of this mod in my mod?
A: Please email me for permission first. Also, if you want to use textures and meshes in this mod, please contact their respective authors for permission. I will not provide their contact info; do your own legwork.
Q: I found a bug! What do I do?
A: Contact me via the email, or via NV Nexus.
