Just started Arena

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:55 pm

Hello, I just started Arena last night. I played a little bit of Morrowind years ago but didn't really understand it. I decided to give arena a shoot and have fallen in love with it I played it for probably 2 to 3 hours last night. I have a question that I have tried to google and checked various user guides but can find nothing on it.

what do the green numbers mean by your character? I noticed that if you click on some gear you get stuff that will say, -2 to AR what does that mean?

Haven't played arena since the 90's, but if I recall correctly, those numbers represent your armor rating. Try taking off a pauldron or something, and see if the number by your shoulder changes.

-2 ar is probably also armor.. and lower might be better.. can't remember.

They represent your Armor Rating: the lower the better.

Got another question. To unlock doors do I need a lockpick? Cause whenever I try to open a locked door hitting, "P" it just says, failed

If you click on the door/chest before trying to lockpick it, you will get a verbal description saying whether you have a chance of opening the lock or not. For example "This lock has nothing to fear from you" is a pretty good indication that you're not skilled enough to open it. Unlike the other games Arena works on an experience based system for character advancement, so to get better at lockpicking you have to kill monsters and then, when you level up, put points in Agility and (I think) Intelligence.

Also, you can just bash doors open with any weapon. This wears out the weapon pretty quickly, however. I tend to keep a cheap lock smashing weapon with me specifically for that purpose.
