This isn't a way to turn the console off, but from what I've heard, even if you bring up the console in game, unless you actually type out a cheat and hit enter, your achievements won't be turned off for that session. If you somehow accidentally do, all that you need to do is quit and restart the game for achievements to start working again.

Set your Fallout.ini and/or FalloutPrefs.ini bAllowConsole to 0. It's probably the FalloutPrefs.ini that makes the difference.

tried that, Fallout.ini is read only so it wont let me change it.

FalloutPrefs.ini has no effect, the console still opened.

Ah, the read only thing is fixed by FalloutNV.exe v 1.1.1.271 (official patch #2) as it disabled that cloud nonsense.

If, after editing your .ini, it becomes read only again, you're probably only patched to 1.1.0.268 or not at all. You should be able to mouse over your FalloutNV.exe to determine its version. If you're not in steam's offline mode, the game should auto-patch.

Yep, im at 1.1.1.271

so why is it read only? if i delete it then it should make a new one right?

Hmmm... Not sure then. Since 1.1.1.271, my .ini customizations have stuck and the .ini hasn't had its "Read only " flag ticked by anything. Have you manually unticked said flag? Deletion of the .ini should result in the game making a new one, but unticking that flag should suffice.

which fallout.ini did you try to edit?
there are 2 in your system.
one is in "\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas"
the other is in "C:\Users\\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV"

i changed the FOV for my pipboy (on a 4:3 display here) in the "Fallout_default.ini"-file that is in the steam folder.
that file isn't write-protected either and should work. =)

You just need to delete the Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini in the My Games\ FalloutNV folder then edit the Fallout_default.ini in the Steamapps\common\FaloutNV folder location. The game will generate a new Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini on launch. You will need to reset your key bindings but it doesn't take long to do. I find that is the best way to make sure both files get updated from the edited Fallout_default.ini file. As always you sould make a backup copy of the original Fallout_default.ini file so it can be restored if necessary.
