Post-Launch DLC

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 12:12 am

Good morning Brink community!! We all know that the game will be in our hands in a few hours, and we all know how much DLC can extend the life of a game when done correctly (and for the right price). Although I did some research previously to starting this thread, I was unable to find any official word on future DLC. Knowing Bethesda's penchant for delivering high quality DLC to support their games, I believe it's inevitable that Brink will receive the same.

The question is, what kind of DLC are you expecting?? I don't know the ending of Brink (and don't want to know, please keep spoilers out), but on a personal note it would be nice to see either the story expanded or just random new missions added in. I'd like to see the island of Brink expanded with new areas to fight over. I'd love to see the obvious new clothing items and weapon selections. I believe there is alot that the developers could do DLC wise to further enhance Brink.

Comments and suggestions welcome, or if you have a link to any official word on Brink DLC that is encouraged as well. Have a great day!!

i think dlc would be coming out in the next few months..SD wants people to learn how to play it/get used to it.I would not mind to wait for a few months anyway :turned:

Do you have any DLC planned (maps, weapons, etc)? – Carter

We like the idea of downloadable content, but it would have to offer good value for players. Right now we are fully focused on Brink’s release and haven’t got anything to announce there.

i tihnk additional What-If missions and/or side stories might be included map wise.
if any weapons get addedd, then they need to follow the lines of the pre-order weapons, and be different models of other weapons only.
new appearance options are likely.

double :ninja:'d again!

Thank you for the link Sight!! So the early word on DLC is no word, but there's still an opportunity. Honestly I really don't want to see previous pre-order bonuses shared to all. I pre-ordered my copy at GameStop and I would like to rock the Doom pack without the opportunity for it to become DLC later.

Do you guys think a free title update with an additional class at some point would be a game breaker??

If everything goes well with the sales, the number of active players are high, and Bethesda doesn't [censored] the [censored], Splash will probably make DLC for us after a month or three

Since the main-story line in BRINK is already on the disc, the 6 ''canon-maps'', they can't add to that, so they'll have to increase the number of What-ifs, which I'll gladly take - there are already 2 on the disc

What I want in the DLC:

Atleast 3 maps
Clothing items
Gun re-textures

I don't want clothing only, I want maps :l

Sales numbers will definately contribute to the future of DLC, so our hope as a community is that the game does sell well. New What-If missions would be fine with me, along with new areas of the world unlocked!!

challenges
clothing
weapons & attachments
weapon skins
pre-order bonuses

As long as they don't charge us for MP maps, I'll be happy.

I think you'll find a mix of Free and Paid DLC.

For example, free Christmas hat. If you know what I mean, certain occasions.

Maybe a free map here and there, but a map pack will cost.

I have the strategy guide (don't worry, no spoilers) and from what I see, there aren't many maps or guns. There are enough character fashions and skills, but guns and maps are low. So that's what I see as the first DLC.

The one thing I am worried about though, is if they do guns, that they aren't more powerful then the vanilla guns (non dlc guns, came with the game). But Splash Damage is emphasizing balance so that shouldn't be a problem.

They can't possibly do big-ass guns with their own stats, the way I see it everyone should have the same stuff that is game-breaking except for maps, that they can do - and clothing if they now want that too

But I can't see attachments nor guns as a DLC unless they're just re-models or re-textures

Well there are only 5 SMG's, 5 Rifles, 3 LMG's, 2 Revolvers, 2 Snipers, 5 Pistols, 2 Grenade Launchers, and 2 Shotguns.

Well damn, that actually is a good amount... not to mention all the attachments...

Horse armor? lol

As far as maps go, I guess that all depends on what platform you are playing on. Consoles are more than likely going to pay for maps because that is what everyone has come to expect, but I'm really hoping they don't do that to the PC community.

You're probably right. The PC has a history of getting most DLC free that consoles have to pay for. Especially with Steam distributed titles, you're most likely getting DLC free.

Yeah, it is something atleast, wouldn't mind more guns, but adding them through DLC aint exactly fine

Yeah, horse armor and stuff like that - you had to pay for some weird-ass cloth for your weird-ass horse in a weird-ass world in a weird-ass game

Haven't they started charging money for the PC DLC too now? :l

I know you guys don't want that, but neither do we consolers

Gears of War 1 had two map packs, both are free now, and before only one was free - but that was becuase it was sponsored by Discovery Channel, the other one was simply free

So if they maybe could get some sponsor(s) they'd be free for us, at the cost of us getting some commercial through the description and the name of the thing we download

EX: MTV Presents BRINK Casino-Pack

Bla bla MTV bla bla something something something bla bla bla
bla bla bla MTV times: XX:XX bla bla something something bla

Contains: The Money Rush-map, The Spin Village-map, The Bar-map, The Gambler (Resistance)-Archetype and The Bodyguard (Security)-Archetype

I like that idea. But that really depends on how well the game sells and what it's metacritic/review score is. If it does good in both those areas, places like MTV will want to sponsor.

Yeah, if it looks good on the paper sponsors might be interested, becuase EVERYONE wants more content for a game they like

I've heard many people on this and the other forum mention ''metacritic'', mind telling me what this critic is? Becuase it seems like it's important :l Is it like.. The official of the official game-score/review site?

Basically it takes reviews from all sources such as IGN, Gamespot and basically any review of the game it can find, and gets the average score of all the reviews. It's very helpful.

Aight, then we gotta hope all the mainstream reviewers gives it a really good score?

For some reason I fear this wont happen, most of them will probably compare it to Call of Duty and play it and review it like it was Call of Duty

I am not bashing on Call of Duty, I like MW2 :P but it's a really different game than all the others on the market so far, so.. Yeah, I'm afraid they wont know exactly how to review it in the best way

And now I sound like a stuck-up ass

I don't know if it's ever been specifically mentioned, but I'd hope that the pre-order bonuses/collectors edition content doesn't appear later as DLC. It's meant to be there for people who buy the game early, releasing it for everyone afterwards kind of screws over the early adopters and sets a bad precedent. If everyone eventually gets the DOOM or Fallout pack, why should I buy the game now, rather than wait until it's $5 on Steam? Exclusive content should stay exclusive, otherwise it stops being special.

I do hope we see other content added though and I'd be surprised if other Bethesda games don't come with some near gear for the game too.

I think it would be best if they keep the pre-order content pre-order, and if anything maybe give out codes in contest or first2grab threads - But if you want it day one you'd buy it no matter what, hm? :P

Anyways.. Yeah, keep the pre-order stuff exclusive to pre-orders

And what could we possibly get from Bethesda customization-wise, if that is what you mean?
