Can't find Arena icon

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 12:32 am

Hi. Making a custom dosbox exe for Arena and I can't find the icon for it. I believe Daggerfalls is in it's install directory but Arena's isn't. Anyone know where it would be/where I could download it?

Arena was a DOS only game, I don't believe there was ever a windows installation of it, even on the Deluxe edition - so you'll have to create your own .ico file for it.

Yeah but what picture should I use?
And wasn't Daggerfall only DOS? It has an icon. It's a greenish grimy looking skull.

You can use any picture you like. Find something in the game you like, take a screenshot, and make an icon out of it using any one of a number of freeware apps floating around out there. I made one using the crossed-swords button you click to raise and lower your weapon. Looks really nice IMO.

Both Arena and DF were indeed DOS games.

Daggerfall wasn't only DOS; I played it straight out of Windows 95 back when it first came out, icon and all.

(Gods... I'm not sure whether it feels odd that that was all of 15 years ago, or that it was only 15 years ago. Yeah, I was young back then. >_> )

Daggerfall had a windows installer, Arena did not, so a icon was never made for Arena.

Daggerfall was Windows 95 in the sense that any DOS game would run in Windows 95 if you tweaked it enough (mostly because Windows 95 was not so much an OS as it was a DOS app that was made to resemble an OS). But it was a straight-up DOS game and didn't need any stinking Windows to run (unlike Redguard).

use the semi famous jager tharn icon and once/if you make it could you please give it to me? I downloaded an installer but the icon looks like something from a 5 year old anime game.

I hate to say this, but I don't think I'm going to bother.
I think to get the Jagar Tharn icon (?) I would have to get to him and take a screenshot. I'm not nearly that far.

Oh, I know that feeling. Weird as hell to think of it.

Yep, it was. But unlike the earlier Windows 3.x which was available back when Arena was released, Windows 95 could run DOS games relatively well. So back then people never booted into Windows to play a DOS game, but booted directly into DOS.
