Gambling with 8 Luck

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 9:36 pm

First of all, Gambling with luck skill at 8 is incredibly easy if you know even the most basic blackjack strategies. I have amassed about 20k caps divided between the various casinos on Vegas.

What is the cut off limit when the casinos accuse you of cheating???

Is it a grand total or can you only win a certain amount of money per visit???

Does it ever reset with the passage of time (i.e. 3 days or so)?

I have won upwards of 5000 caps at one sitting (like 15 minutes worth of gambling) and they rewarded me with a nice set of reinforced metal combat armor.

Ultra-Luxe's is like, what? 12,000 I think?

I just read it in passing, and I am not sure if it's different for all the casinos.

From reading other threads on here it varies by casino. The value does not reset with time, and once vanned, you're permanently banned.

For the Ultra-Luxe it's 15k and the others are 10k I believe. I won 19k in the Atomic Wrangler when I hit a 16k jackpot on the slot machines. Came very close to the 3 oranges which would be 32k since I use the max bet of 200.

I agree that a high luck helps a lot but I wish the Black Jack interface was a bit more like Red Dead Redemption. It gives you a numerical value of your cards and of the dealers and with the new vegas screen I can sometimes barely read my cards. I am using a standard def TV and I know everything is meant for high def but even the text overlaps the cards which makes it difficult.

It's a fixed amount based on the casino.

The Ultra-Luxe for instance gives you a suite at 12k, then you get banned at 15k.

There's a mod I highly recommend that increases the limit (and greatly increases maximum bet), with an alternative version that removes the ban altogether. Search new vegas nexus for it.

I can't tell if I like the "ban" effect. Part of me is against it. Then I think about the actual game and storyline and realize that I didn't buy Fallout New Vegas just to gamble...

I think they should have removed the "luck" skill or at least nerfed it when it came to gambling. If you play smart blackjack you literally win 6-7 out of ten hands with a high luck skill.

Well yeah, it makes perfect sense. Fits the whole deal with the casinos. But it's also meant to not rule over the game and the economy, hence why Luck has an effect at all.

It just svcks that if you enjoy gambling, you'll quickly be banned and never be able to do it again.

So my solution, for now, is to simply use a mod like that and exercise self control. Don't go overboard with the gambling, spend the money on the convenience of repairs for very expensive items (hey I'm rich, why should I scavenge for power armor so I can keep my [censored] in good condition?) and just enjoy it for what it is. As a result, I'm never banned from gambling, but it doesn't take the fun out of the economic aspect of the game, nor does it consume a large portion of my game time.

A better solution will be using a mod that has a timed reset for bans, like once a week (more than enough as I've modded my game to 1:5 time compression, instead of the vanilla 1:30), but until then, this will do the trick.

Self control works wonders for the Luck part of the equation, too. Just reduce your Luck attribute and put points elsewhere, then enjoy more realistic gambling.

I just wish there were more craftables that used large amounts of caps, paper money or denarius, like the 12ga one.
