Construction Set - Playing as a non-NPC.

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 2:34 pm

Hey guys. This is my first post on the forums so be nice. :D

I have viewed many tutorials (3 to be accurate) and they all say the same thing on this matter. Find the NPC through CS you want to be. Copy the face advanced to the Player, then modify the different numbers on the face tab. Apply save and there you go! You can now play as any character in Oblivion!! Only problem is however.. it dosen't work for me.. Yeah. It does for everybody else for some reason. I have no experience with saving mods. I saved my plugins in the CS in Oblivion - Data. They ARE saved there because i open them through CS all the time to try and get it to work. Yet when I open Oblivion - Data outside of CS they are invisible. It could be because the logo beside it, instead of a plain bit of paper, it has a lock in the corner. This could have something to do with it.

When I open Oblivion, it just shows the default player look, not my mod which I enabled in Data Files. I could really use some help as I have tried and tried for 6 months to try and get this to work.

Thank you!

Can you link to these tutorials? As far as I know, there is no way to modify the player face within the CS - its all done within game. You can use an external program to import/export faces, but its not related to the construction set.

If you use Vista or W7 you need to install outside the Program Files folder. You should also disable UAC and run Oblivion and the CS under administrator.

By the way, NPC means "Non-Player Character". So "non-NPC" means the player.

Really I'd just use Wrye Bash to import a face into your save game rather than messing with it in the CS.

Installing Oblivion anywhere but Program Files should solve your problems (I have mine in C:/Games/Oblivion). You should also note that the mods only change the default player face, and won't work on an existing save game.

Thank you!

One last question I have for you. How do I move Oblivion outside of program files? I seriously am a newb in downloading things. Please forgive me.

Again your help is invaluable.

EDIT: It appears I have TWO oblivion folders???? One has the Saves etc in it. The other has the Data files. The one with the saves is Bethesda/Oblivion/ The one with saves is Documents/MyGames/Oblivion

Hmmm...

Nothing out of the ordinary there. The game keeps the saves in your Documents folder and the resources in the Oblivion/Data folder.

First, create a new folder on the C drive called Games. After you've done that:
Uninstall Oblivion and re-install it. When you re-install it, it will ask you if you want to install it in the default directory (which is C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion ). There will be an option next to that to change the directory. Install it in the new folder you created. That should solve your mod issues.

And for some in depth tutorials on the CS, try the http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Main_Page and http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/

For some reason it won't let me edit my post ok so here is my progress..

Uninstalled Oblivion from Program Files. Installed into C Drive. Again Uninstalled Construction Set. Reinstalled the same.

I can now use the construction set and oblivion. I can now see my files from CS saved. Before they were not displaying, but were saved.

I can enable them in Data Files.

For some reason IT STILL WILL NOT WORK.

I saved my CS plugin into C//INSTALL OBLIVION HERE/Oblivion/Data Files

Please help, I am making progress because I can see my mod in Data Files.. But it won't actually work.

Unless you mean something else with "IT".

If you're using a 1.2 CS to create your mods, you will need your game patched to version 1.2.0416 as well, because unpatched games will just "silently ignore" any ESP created with the 1.2 CS.
If you're not possessing the Game-Of-The-Year edition (which is already patched), you should go http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm and obtain the official patch for your installation. You will only need 1 of them.
