how do you turn an .omod into bain ready

Right click on the omod in OBMM and select convert to archive.

Why can't you just download a non-OMOD version? Anyway, you can just right-click on the OMOD and choose "Info" in order to see what the OMOD contains.

Which mod is this that you are investigating? I might be able to use it for the screenshot tutorial, if it is not too big.

Yeah OBMM will convert to archives, but also omods are just renamed archives. You could change the file extension yourself and 7zip should handle it.

But the trick comes with the requirements that BAIN has for subfolders and such and there are many omods that are not BAIN ready.

case by case basis though.

I don't remember now what it was. I just wanted to compare the two different files uploaded by different people to make sure it was the same files.
I asked in another forum if the structure was ok and was told it was.

changed the extension of an .omod to .7z and it had unreadable files in it (readme could be added/opened with Notepad but had a few wierd characters in it), a file named "data" that wasn't a folder, couldn't be changed to .7z to open.

What you wanna do to "convert" an OMOD to traditional directory files:

  • Have the installable OMOD in-place in the official omod directory (\Obliviion\obmm\mods). Doesn't matter if the OMOD in question is activated or not.
  • Open OBMM.
  • Right-click the OMOD you want to extract.
  • Select the menu option "extract to folder". Do not extract into your Oblivion directories, use a special obmm/bain work directory for this purpose, preferably on a separate partition/drive.


That should get you exactly what you want.

There is no point in this extraction stuff. If you already have an archive version of this mod (the one you are trying to compare the OMOD's contents too) just use the 'Info' option from the context menu in OBMM to look through the archive. If you really want to convert the OMOD into an archive, choose 'Convert to archive' from that same menu. However, that is not at all necessary for your purposes.

What mod is this that you are trying to check, anyway?

No particular omod. I just want to know if it is possible and how. I thought maybe I could do it without having to open OBMM.

OMODs were introduced by OBMM. That is really the only tool for viewing OMODs' additional information data.


Edit: Plus, it does not take much to launch OBMM and view and OMOD's info. I do that too, on occasions. That is all I need when I want to write scripts for various OMODs.
