Daggerfall, crash on reward pickup

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 3:03 am

So all of a sudden, Daggerfall is crashing whenever I turn in a quest and am given a reward. I've never had any problems with quest rewards before, only recently. I haven't tried any quest where I haven't been offered a reward, but I assume it wouldn't crash, because everything else works fine. However, I've tried two different quests with rewards and both times, when the inventory screen pops up and the reward is shown, the game crashes, regardless of whether or not I accept the reward.

I'm not entirely sure what's causing this, but I did recently change the z.cfg file and I can't think of what else would be causing the issue if not that. If that is the problem, how do I fix it? Is there any easy way to replace the z.cfg file without losing any progress?

I hate to double post, but I'd like to bump this, as it's still a problem and I just can't figure out how to fix it without removing the whole game and starting fresh and losing hours and hours of gameplay, which I really don't want to do.

What did you change about the z.cfg file? It it wasn't either of the first 2 lines (path and pathcd) then I can't see anything that would affect you like this.

I would suggest you backup your saves and reinstall the game

I added the "magicrepair 1" line to repair magic items and didn't change anything else, but I did set the .cfg file to open with Notepad by default.

The path and pathCD lines, however, are set to directories that don't actually exist on my computer. I didn't change them myself and I don't know if they could've been changed by assigning a default program to the .cfg file, and I'm not sure if they were like that before or not, or if it's even relevant.
