Unarmed but with a shield?

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 3:51 am

I am wondering if there any mods that allow me to use a shield and block with it but without having to hold a weapon also. Kinda like Captain America lol

Don't think there's a mod that does that, but you could use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29586 or something similar in the right hand I guess. But then the Shield will give magic penalties of course.

Long ago I used a mod which removed the magic penalty when using armor, although right now I don't remember it's name...

It was a simple one, though. Just a modified GMST.

That would be either http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27332 or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20037.

Shield wise, I would go with Arkngt's suggestion with orbs and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7745 exist.

Yes, I like that OOO ups the penalties compared to vanilla. A pure mage in full Daedric w/o magic penalties sounds lame to me. :toughninja:

I don't really like how it's implemented though. I've been playing a battlemage and armor penalties are lame. I've OOO and LAME. With LAME the penalties are ridiculous. I didn't realize OOO upped them as well (I'm using a plugin that restores them to vanilla levels to combat LAME). Armor penalty is a purely balancing mechanic and doesn't really make any logical sense. A mage should not get weaker if he puts on a pair of gloves or picks up a shield.

I think they should only effect Destruction spells, and the rationalization behind that might be that in order to unleash destruction on your foe you must be completely mentally given over to offense. By putting on armor you concede in some way to your personal well-being, and thus your mental capacity for wanton destruction is reduced.

If you run OOO and LAME the penalties won't increase further. They'll just be set to the mod that loads last. I think the idea behind lowering magic power in armour is that armour makes it hard to move and you need to be able to do that to cast spells.

Logic and logic. It makes sense that a pure mage shouldn't also be able to have much AR from armors w/o penalties. Otherwise mages would be even more powerful than they already are. I'm fine with the implementation of it in OOO.

It's logical because if you wear a pair of gloves they will automaticly reduce the effects of the "energy" coming out of you palms, if it were fire energy then the gloves would get burned, you know what I mean? Also If backfire effects would be added to oblivion well let's just say a lot of players would be pissed off

Ah yeah, I realized that.

Sure but that applies to everyone else as well. I think an archer might have trouble stringing a bow in heavy armor, and a swordsman would certainly be quicker naked...

But yeah Arkgnt is right too. Take my version of logic further and a swordsman should go down from one fireball and then where would we be.

What I would like is an Unarmored skill with perks and everything. I have tried a couple of mods doing that but wasn't too happy with the implementation so I've skipped that.

Duke Patrick's Combat Magic might be what you're looking for. Still a WIP tho...

Ahh, good ol' Spells be Effective...I'll install it ASAP, thx!

At Master armor levels, an extra 5% of spell effectiveness barely affects difficulty, and certainly doesn't for me at all. I've no problems at keeping my game challenging, even at lvl 50.

My secret? HP capped to 100, and no über gear (maybe except the sword, which does 129 damage + 22 Absorb Health). Still, certain enemies (mainly from mods) takes forever to kill.
