So I decided to start up a new character today in oblivion. Came up with a fun back story, wrote out his bio in MS word and everything. I play dead is dead of course. The sad part is I'm getting out of the tutorial dungeon right? and that mythic dawn agent that butchers the emperor ends up killing me. Turns out i forgot to turn the difficulty bar down from all the way up when i was on my higher level character.

Anyways, i died inside a little.

But it made me wonder, what kind of game events made any of you players out there sad pandas?

Realizing my Mercantile level went up to permanent 101 after helping the merchant in Chorrol. This was on my 100 in everything character and I felt that the perfection failed so I had to do it all again, it took 200 more hours...

Why "of course"? Few people play that way. I find that causes you to avoid challenges. So my character dying is not good but not particularly sad either.

As far as the main question, the list in the spoilers button is a pretty good start. But it misses the absolute saddest even for me, and that is what happens to the Donton's during the fighters guild questline.

Also several of the Dark Brotherhood quests are very very sad. Like what that jerk Lucien does to Francois Motierre's mother. Also your character wiping out that family, or killing that peaceful wood elf in Bruma, etc.

Martin, because we were pals. And Svenja, because she got nice stuff for me in Bloodmoon.

And the troll. I would have given him money if he asked for it...

It made me pretty sad when I started the great gate battle and we were dominating, then once I get, do my thing... get back out to find Jaufree and Baurus both dead. :shakehead:

Same here. My heart really sank when I found out those weren't goblins. Especially when I recalled myself paying off the 1000 drake debt one of them had.

Yeah, killing everyone in the DB Sanctuary was a downer. Especially because you only get a bunch of crappy no-name svck-ups once you finish the quest.

Another of mine was during the knights of the nine dlc. I was pretty sad when i went through the last dungeon to kill umaril, only to discover afterwards that not a single of my fellow crusaders survived the encounter.

another, while doing the DB quests, it didnt bother me to perform the purification though it was difficult to kill Ocheeva especially after you kill her she screams with her last breath "Why brother?"....but anyway it was a huge downer for Lucien to be killed at the end i was starting to like him

The starter dungeon is a lot of fun on max difficulty... you should do it. For the final tussle with the assassins, blow any greater powers, particularly the Shadow birthsign. Since we can switch birthsign before leaving the sewers, it's a nice cheesy way of getting through the chokepoint. Without birthsign abuse, go into block mode and use the recoil time to run around and draw Baurus.
