This game "could" have been really good!

You don't need to try and "Educate" me, you are the one who needs a bit of educating if you cannot understand competitive gaming.

Flips are stylish, and can make you a harder target to hit. It also increases the skill level for players who want to perform sick moves while shooting enemies. Don't you want to look cool?

You are an amazing comedian or brilliant troll. Don't talk about competitive gaming when you want useless moves to look cool/stylish.

Your suggestions are childish for a someone over the age of 30. If you wanted acrobatics go play a game designed for that, Brink's SMART is a tool for combat, you slide for dodging, you climb for vantage points, none of it is for you to "look cool".

I just watched the Brink Cinematic GDC 2010 Trailer again...

Everyone is rolling around... there is even a wall run, a wall flip, a backward slide, a reverse belly slide and an assasination with 1 hit from behind.... they even show throwing weapons and picking up weapons...

It was obviously on the developers to do list at the begining....

This is seriously what we businessman call "Over-promise, under-deliver"

If this game delivered what was in this trailer, i would have been 100% satisfied

Dude, honestly it's a CINEMATIC trailer. The key word there is bolded. They didn't "over promise" anything in the trailer.
It's not their fault you made assumptions about the game that turned out to be false. Get over it.

Also if your flaunting your 'superiority' around, at least clean up your grammar and spelling. Your being out preformed by a 16 year old.

+1 Keyboard warrior.

So, you saying this.. gains???... We dont need any of this. The GAMEPLAY is fine. Brink needs no work with that. Were you looking for people to agree with you? if so, that didnt work.

Just make yer own game bro. Hop off here and get to work.

I agree with some of his ideas. Why don't you make your own game "bro" if you know all there is to know about everything.

Wow. Defensive much? Also: you're wrong. The competative nature is what draws SOME people to them. Some people are drawn to the art. Some people are drawn by the adrenaline. Some people are drawn by the teamwork. If you're just after "owning newbs" then go play a game that is tailored to inflating epeen like COD where you can outrank the newbs and really get your money's worth of ownage.

What? There is virtually no skill gap in the CoD series. There is also very little skill gap in Brink. Competitive gaming is going down the tubes in an attempt for developers to sell more copies of their games.

Yes, although it is true, Splash Damage stated from the start that they intended to make a game with a enjoyable team-based game.

If people desperately want to play a 'competitve' game with a skill-gap, they should just play Counter-Strike.

That's a game with a large skill gap. It's certainly not pick-up and play. It's a game made up majorly of elitist pr**ks.

If you knew ANYTHING about objective-based team games, you'd know that TRUE competition in these games has NOTHING to do with "how many newbs I just owned" - it's all about HOW VALUABLE YOU ARE TO YOUR TEAM. What does this game reward you for? HOW VALUABLE YOU ARE FOR YOUR TEAM.

"Owning newbs" = Clearing a path for your teammates to complete the objective.

Where in the trailer does it say they're showing in-game footage? It's a CINEMATIC trailer guys, get over it already. Of course they're going to put some things in the cinematic trailer to add to the effect of the presentation. I swear this is the first time I've ever heard people complaining about not being able to do the things they've seen in the cinematic trailer for a game. GET OVER IT.

When a game says "Parkour" then shows a trailer with "Parkour" style fighting, wouldn't you expect the game to have "Parkour" ?, right now I just climb over things and slide on the ground... this does not in anyway make me a "athletic" person such as the dev commentary mentioned, without spelling it out word for word and telling you exactly which clip he mentioned that in... best to ask The wonderful wizard of BRINK forums -> Zenstar , i bet he can even provide a link to it.

To be honest there is an idea there about "seeing how cool things were" that I wouldn't mind implemented (or being made easier to access): Demos and replays.
Flipping camera views in game is confusing and disorienting but being able to watch a match after it has happened is awesome and allows you to learn from mistakes and learn from other peoples' tactics.

I'd be quite happy to have that in the game.

EDIT:
"best to ask The wonderful wizard of BRINK forums -> Zenstar , i bet he can even provide a link to it."
I like the title thanks. Nope I don't have any links other than brinkthegame.com.
I think theres a fair amount of parkour in the game as it is. It's not fancy flaring parkour but it is what I'd imagine "combat parkour" to be. Straight forward and effective: aimed at getting to the right place at the right time.

They advertised a S.M.A.R.T. system. Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain in case you didn't know.

They had stated many a time that the point of S.M.A.R.T. is to remove the physical restraints placed by a traditional shooter.

I don't recall them ever mentioned parkour as a main feature? If they did in the context your refering to, could you provide a link?

Never really played Counter-Strike, but searching high-level on any ranked playlist on Halo 3 required both individual skill and teamwork to win. Maybe that's just what I enjoy, but whatev... to each their own.

LOL you think I'm not competitive???

Let me guess you the guy who, slides for dodging and climbs for vantage points.... well I'm the guy who does all that while killing an entire team by myself... and yes I only use a pistol

Why? Because the harder I make the game and the more technical it becomes the more of an art ownage becomes... yes I am an elitist and yes I do believe people who cant do what I do aren't as co-ordinated as myself... I just don't have a good text personality..

What game do you recommend? SMART is a tool for combat??? Smooth Movement Across Rough Terrain or Random Terrain... aint no combat oriented, its purely movement,,, it needs to be a combat oriented tool IMO

Yes I am childish that is why I play video games. So what defines "advlt" in your world?

Arghhh... the first thing you've said that is worth agreeing with... REPLAY feature FTW! Definitely a good idea, I would most definitely love to see myself kicking butt! I could then tally my kills on a notepad bwhahaha

Somehow I don't think Brink is a game that is marketed toward elitists.

Oh, now that's unfortunate... No comma after "Also", two separate uses of "Your" instead of "You're" and a mis-spelling/typing error on "performed", all in the one sentence!

If we've degenerated to arguing over grammar I posit that this thread has died and anything further will simply be rehashing of previously stated points or off-topic musings.

EDIT: spelling correction :P

Yes, well unfortunately this is a bad habit. Something I've always done, although I usually pick up on it. Anyway, I'm certain you get the point I was trying to make.

ha ha, yeah sorry dude, just couldn't resist... it's total hypocrisy on my part anyway as i usually never bother to capitalise on t3h 1nt3rw3bs

regarding the parkour, i think it works well as it is. it adds a nice level of movement that is missing from a lot of other IPs (the sliding thing alone gets you out of a LOT of nasty situations) but it's not super intrusive like on other games that have tried it (i'm looking at you, Mirrors Edge). if you started putting a whole load of other parts on it either people wouldn't use it at all (as a lot of previous posters have already explained clearly enough) or you'd just end up with the über 1337 brigade turning up, t**ting about trying for montage clips all over the shop and we all know how that irritating little chain of events ends... with a game like Black Ops. :bolt:

I do not think you are getting where we are trying to run you into. Your ideas for the most part are messy and completely not needed. And if you think that deathmatch would be a great idea, then run back to CoD because you are bringing a knife to a rocket fight. Your Parkour idea is complete garbage, why disorient the player? I for one adapt lowly to situations. If I had to roll up a wall like a freaking spider just to get a kill, I would not play.

P.S. If you think that the "SMART" only kept the game afloat, you are sadly mistaken sir.

The only thing useful about SMART is I don't have to deal with "WTF did I get stuck on?". They had me SOLD with that. Everything else bout SMART is cosmetic.

If you didn't know, sorry. Though people from this forum have been really bad about posting things in the wrong forum, namely the community discussion. Wasn't trying to come off as a jerk.

Every thread I have opened tonight have been filled to the Brink () with flames and flamebait. This one is no exception and after going through several long threads to edit, delete and otherwise instruct on acceptable posting behavior here I am not going through this one but rather closing it.

Please folks read our rules, you agreed to follow them when you joined and we do give warnings, suspensions and ban for breaking them. I'll be caught up soon with all these and start handing them out so...I'd back off the rude, condescending remarks and pull out my kind helpful, welcoming posting style if I were you. ;)
