Broken armor?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:07 pm

I'm experiencing a certain problem with four NPCs, in particular(Farwil, his fellow Knight of the Thorn, Captain Burd, and Amminius Gregori). They aren't wearing any cuirasses. Burd is wearing green clothing, but the other three are just mostly naked. It's really annoying me. I pickpocketed Farwil to find his cuirass broken, but I didn't check anyone else's armor. Burd, after waiting for several ingame days, still isn't wearing his armor. All the mentioned people removed their armor either while

entering or exiting an Oblivion Gate, except in the case of Amminius Gregori, who removed it when I exited an Oblivion Gate.
Is there any way to fix this problem, with the current NPCs and in case it happens again?

I'm sure no expert in this area, but here are a few ideas:

1. I know that if you encounter a dead NPC and use the PC command console to resurrect him, he will appear with all new standard issue out of the box stuff.

So, I'm guessing that if you killed him (I would use the console to do it) and resurrect him, he would get all new stuff.

2. Reverse pickpocket some permabound armor (perhaps the only viable option if not on PC).

3. Use the command console to add any armor you want to an NPCs inventory. Then use the command console to have them equip it. I have used this before with good success.

No reason for me to tell you how to fix it, as Acadian already explained how, but I do know, more than likely, why it happened. Sometimes, an NPC's armor will break, and they will remove it. This happened to me with the Fighter's Guild champion Owyn.

I am playing the PS3 version. So permabound armor is my only choice, eh? It'll match Burd's new claymore(he picked up a Daedric one when his old one broke).

I was under the impression that NPC gear did not degrade.

No, item health works the same way for NPC's.

Also, this is game play/spoilers.

It does, and it can be annoying. On my last playthrough of the main quest, I used the console to give Burd and his people extra health (otherwise with OOO and MMM and a very high level they would have all died in seconds, except for Burd who is essential). Burd kept his armor through the gate, but when the gate was closed he had that Green outfit on.

Yes it will. The last time I did the Battle for Kvatch, Savlian Matius ended up naked from the waist down. I actually ended up gaining a little bit of respect for him. He'd be screaming "For the empire!" or some other non-sense and charge a level 43 Xivialli and three other Daedra .... with no pants on. It was pretty epic now that I think about, and slightly uncomfortable at the same time. I was like "dude, you're tough and all, but I see your little brown diaper thing. Put some damned pants on. You're kind of weirding me out a bit."
