I have just started playing oblivion (I'm an experienced Morowind-player), and my first Fighters guild quest is troublesome.

I talked to the local guild leader, Azzan, who told me about a ratproblem, but I could not anage to get a journalentry for the ratquest. Thinking that maybe it had no initial questentry I just went to Arvena Thalas and spoke with her. She would say nothing about rats (except her rumour), so I bribed her with no result and killed the rats, but neither Thalas or Azzan would say anything new.

On uespwiki I saw, that I should actually have saved the rats from a mountain lion (which I never saw), so I have messed up the quest now, but why didn't I get any journalentry, when Azzan talked to me about rats. And what should I do in terms of fighter guild quests now?

Sounds like a glitch. You should just reload and try again.

I have spoken to Azzan about contract at least 5 times before and after speaking to Thelas and killing the rats. Now that I have killed the rats (and since then done a mages guild quest), I would guess that I can't do the quest again, so I should admit my fail to Azzan or something.

But since this is my first Oblivion play, I'm thinking, that I have missed something when Azzan spoke to me, but to talked about the rats under the topic "Contract" but even when trying all other topics, I couldnt get a journalentry. Are ther somethin, that I (as a Morrowinder) has missed in getting the quest.

What platform are you on? If you're on PC there might be a few work arounds.

You could try this command in the console;

SetStage FGC01Rats 110

You are suppossed to save the rats, not kill them. You will have to start fresh if you are on the console.

Azzan will have more to say, you just have to scroll down to see it. IIRC the new topic will be "Rats."

I missed that one my first time too, but went back to Azzan before I killed any rats because I didn't remember him saying anything about mountain lions.

Yes I realised that but a little too late, since I had killed the rats long before I saw it on uespwiki.
After my last post, I played again, and the woman was mad at me for killing the rats, so I managed to get a journalentry and finish the quest, eventhough I failed it. So I have moved on now.


I think that must have been my problem, that I didn't realise, that I had to scroll down... rookie mistake :facepalm:
I will remember to look all the way down next time, I'm missing something.

Gimme a break, every other damn rat I had met in the game had attacked me; how was I supposed to know these were actually pets? I guess maybe I shoulda spoken to the lady of the house first before I got all stabhappy.
