Crashing about every 5 minutes?

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 1:02 pm

I believe it was ever since I installed Dogtown's Monster Mod (Although I'm not certain, so that's not absolutely the problem, just a possible one) that my game had begin to do this thing where whenever I would open a door or simply interact with something, my game would stutter for about a second and half - the music would sound like a broken record player and the screen would halt - and at that time, my game would crash about every hour. I didn't know why, but I figured that if it became more severe I'd report it. Well, now it's become more severe, as I can barely play Fallout for five minutes without it crashing.

http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/6937/myloadorder.jpg (Sorry the text is so small, can't seem to change that)

Remember, I'm not absolutely certain that Monster Mod has anything to do with my issues, I just think it possibly could.

Thanks for any help.

Try not using any mods, start a new game, play it for like 10 minutes, and make sure it isn't hardware failure crashing you, as opposed to software (mods).

Just checked, my game runs smooth as a whistle without the mods, so it's definitely them. Most likely my fault for the way that I installed them (Can't think of any mistakes I made, but obviously I made some or my game wouldn't be crashing), but it's definitely the mods.

That's good news at least; woulda svcked if your video card was dying for example.

You have a LOT of mods installed. You have several options as to how to approach finding the culprit mod, but they're all pretty tedious. A binary search is how I'd approach the search:
1) disable half the mods, and see if it crashes
2) if not, swap to the other half and see if it crashes
2b) if so, disable half the remaining mods and see if it crashes
3) go to step 2

Ultimately, the problem may lie in a conflict between mods, which could make narrowing down which ones are conflicting difficult.

As you determine which ones don't crash, you'll need to re-enable most of them as you keep whittling away at the ones that do crash. It'll require taking notes, unless you want it to take extra long. It could also be a damaged save.

Can you export your load order as a text file through FOMM and copy/paste it here? It's hard to see based on the screenshot and load order in text format would make it easier to comment on specific mods.

Working on that as I type this.

Okay, I've found out that the IWS mods and the MoMods are whats causing the crashing. My games runs perfectly fine as long as I'm not running any of these mods:

IWS-Core.esm
MoMod.esm
IWS-Core-Patrols.esp
IWS-Core-Guards.esp
IWS-Core-Civilians.esp
IWS-AS-LowSpawns.esp
IWS-AS-NoInteriorSpawns.esp
IWS-MoMod.esp
AWOP-MoMod.esp
AWOPMonsterPatch.esp
--
If I'm running those mods, than I get the crash problem.

Now I just need your help, guys.

I reinstalled MoMod and IWS, and now my game is back to normal. Thanks for the help Queue, I'll definitely be posting back if something comes up, but let's all pray that nothing does!

Looking at your load order, I have some initial suggestions:

1) Download the Community Bug Fixes Compilation. The one on the Nexus is not fully updated for the latest patch just yet, but it won't break your game either. There is an alternative CBFC not hosted on the Nexus which is updated for the latest patch, you can try that one too.

2) The 'Active Wasteland' esp's should go much higher in your load order, certainly before FOOKNV esp's. There are many mods I don't recognize so I can't tell you where they should go. So what you should do -first-, is to save your load order via FOMM then download/run BOSS. BOSS will automatically sort your load order according to community input, then tell you which mods it does not recognize so you can re-order them manually.

3) IWR.esm <-- this has been a cause of CTD for me. Removing it has made my game more stable. Can't say why other than the fact that making too many edits in the Wasteland space tends to make the game less stable.

4) Cleaned Novac.esp <-- these sort of "remove clutter" mods are always suspect. I've checked 4 of these kinds of mods in FNVEdit and in every instance, the modder deleted statics references rather than disable them via FNVEdit (which may cause CTD when other mods reference those statics). The problems with this is documented in Miax's Training Manual for FNVEdit and FO3Edit. You can download the training manual from the Nexus to get instructions on how to clean the esp yourself using FNVEdit. Or just remove the plugins. You may also need to do this with Nevada Skies. I do recall having to clean previous versions of NS, including removal of identical to master entries (not sure if the latest version has already been cleaned by the modder).

5) I don't see a merged patch (FNVEdit) or bashed patch (WryeFlash). If you are running so many mods, and so many overhaul mods (like FOOKNV, Project Nevada), this is not optional. Not sure how familiar you are with reading mod conflicts in FNVEdit, You can certainly create your own compatibility patches. Otherwise, you need to use FNVEdit or WryeFlash to create one for you.

[edit]
Hm...IWS is buggy, and appears to be no longer supported. The modder has been on hiatus and hasn't responded to any of the bug reports. Given the size of your load order, I'd suggest you not reinsert it back into your load order. Yes, I know there are no other alternatives to increased spawn, still....

Thanks ripple, I'll be sure to try those things out when I get back home. Would you by chance be able to answer http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1195000-mod-issues/?
