I don't understand why people use it, what's the big deal if someone sees you reading a topic?

Good thing it's gone. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO HIDE?

My desire that other people reply to what I say.

If you're the only one left, you're not very anonymous anymore. ;)

I really can't think of a reason why it would be taken away either, but since I no longer get random PM's I guess it doesn't much matter. An explanation would be nifty, however.

I just noticed this myself. If I remember correctly I always had anonymous log-in ticked when helping members of the forums because there would be an entourage of posters checking my profile to see if I was online to PM me questions about Morrowind or Oblivion, a few admitted this. Soon as I logged in anonymously the profile stalking stopped thereafter. svcks that it's gone, so guess it's log-out when I'm not actually going to post.

You guys get random PMs asking questions about Bethesda's games?... Why? Don't these people know that making a topic is a bit quicker than stalking you and waiting for you to sign on?

A few of those people would also just randomly message me about their endeavors in the game after asking me a bunch of questions about certain quests or items. I didn't mind chatting but again it would happen as soon as they saw I was online -- it stopped when I was able to hide status. I liked keeping it that way.

There are other people who used to frequent the old MW forums who I'm sure got the same thing.

What is the big deal that they don't? I feel I have a legitimate reason, but forget that, what if I just want to browse anonymously? What's the big deal with that?

I'm more just curious what actual reasons people have for browsing anonymously. I understand your reasoning, I'm just wondering what other reasons people have for it, as I don't understand why anyone would want to.

I started the habit in day two when I got in this forum for the sheer pleasure of being a "ghost". Also, browsing anonymously, as Third Eye mention.

But ya, I would also like to know as well as to why such feature was remove in the first place. It was such a fun feature in this forum.

For me, if someone in the MW Cheats section didn't know the answer to something, they were told to send me a PM (yes, I was actually useful at that point in time - summer of 2002). I really didn't mind at first, but it almost became a part time job and was the reason why I quit posting back then. I no longer had the time to devote to it. So most of my random PM's were to fix Morrowind problems or to explain a game function.

Also, the CD section was brutal back then, so to get to know someone, you pretty much had to use the PM system.

That has happened to me too. I also sometimes get random PMs that have nothing to do with Bethesda games and are often rather creepy
