The Elder Scrolls: Arena

Release Date: April 4, 1994
Designer: VJ Lakshman & Ted Peterson
Developer: Bethesda Softworks
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
ESRB Rating: Teen
Genre: Role-playing
Platform: PC
Story: After trapping Emperor Uriel Septim VII in an alternate plane, Imperial Battlemage Jagar Tharn assumes the Emperor's identity, and rules without care as the provinces wage war. The ghost of Ria Silmane frees a hero from the depths of the Empire's dungeons and guides his search for the Staff of Chaos, a potent artifact which Jagar Tharn has broken in eight parts and hidden. The hero journeys to eight well-defended citadels in eight different provinces, recovering the Staff's pieces. Then, armed with the reforged Staff, the hero confronts and defeats Jagar Tharn in the labyrinths beneath the Imperial Palace, and the Emperor is returned to the throne.

Description: The first chapter in the award-winning The Elder Scrolls series, Arena includes full character generation, 18 unique character classes, 2,500 magical items, and over 400 cities, towns, and villages for you to explore. Arena won awards and acclaim from every major media outlet for it's engrossing storyline and in depth gameplay. Although it does not include all of the features that have become trademarks to the series, Arena remains a strong role-playing game and a classic installment in the series.

The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

Release Date: 31 August, 1996
Designer: Julian Lefay & Ted Peterson
Developer: Bethesda Softworks
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
ESRB Rating: Mature
Genre: Role-playing
Platform: PC
Story: From a complex weave of arcane plots, Imperial intrigues, and personal betrayals, an agent of Uriel Septim resolves two historic feats: the laying to rest of the ghost of treacherously slain King Lysandus of Daggerfall, and the reactivation of Numidium, the titanic iron golem once used by Tiber Septim to forge the Empire. The agent who won the Mantella from the plane of Aetherius and gifted his patron with the Totem artifact decided who should command Numidium, and who would shape the future of the Empire.

Description: The recipient of every major "Best RPG of the Year" award, The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall revolutionizes the world of role-playing games, creating a new standard in 3D graphics and role-playing expansiveness. The second chapter in The Elder Scrolls, Daggerfall contains, literally, hundreds of hours of gameplay. Prepare to experience your new obsession.

Starting off in Daggerfall can overwhelm the senses. No other game has such a huge world to explore. Travel around a land mass twice the size of Great Britain, exploring dungeons, castles, tombs, and even alternative dimensions. Just to walk from one end of the world to the other will take over 2 full weeks in real-time (we actually tested this!) Converse with over 750,000 characters that inhabit this world. Daggerfall is a game that sets new boundaries with over 200 hours of gameplay. It's no wonder that it took almost 3 years to develop this epic game.

You can literally do anything you want and go anywhere you want. Join a guild and climb in rank to become a respected member of a Knightly Order. Become a spy and infiltrate the royal ranks, and even rebel against your own king. Become a thief who slips in and out of the shadows and steals the rare treasures of the world. There are six different endings, if you choose to play out the main story quest, but ultimately the life you choose to live will be a unique experience that no other gamer will encounter.

An Elder Scrolls Adventure: Redguard

Release Date: October 31, 1998
Designer: Michael Kirkbride & Todd Howard
Developer: Bethesda Softworks
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Genre: Adventure
ESRB Rating: Teen
Platform: PC
Story: In 2E 864, the Redguards of Hammerfell rose in rebellion against the Imperial administration of Provincial Governor Amiel Richton. The Restless League, led by Cyrus and Iszara -- brother-and-sister agents of the province's hereditary rulers -- destroyed the Imperial fleet in Stros M'Kai harbor and routed the Legion garrison. With Admiral Richton dead, and Stros M'Kai in rebel hands, Emperor Tiber Septim was forced to sue for peace on terms favorable to Hammerfell.

Your quest leads from the Iron Governor of the Island Stros M'kai, to a restless band of pirates, and even into another dimension. Along the way you'll interact with dozens of characters and face creatures of every shape and size. You'll explore beaches, mountains, caverns, ruins, and more as the storyline unfolds.

The Elder Scrolls 1 :Arena

Where can I download the demo?
You may download the demo here: http://www.uesp.net/file.shtml?arena/files/arenadmo.zip. (1MB)

Is The Elder Scrolls 1: Arena REALLY Free?
Yes. As of 2004 the Elder Scrolls Arena is free.

Where can I download The Elder Scrolls Arena?
You can download The Elder Scrolls Arena from the Official Elderscrolls website: http://elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_games.htm. (8MB)

Can you give me some tips to install it?
To install Arena just open the package you download from the Elder Scrolls site and click and unpack it too anywhere you want (Where you can remember it, I would suggest C:\ARENA) Then go and click the install.exe and install through there (I suggest C:\Arena) and pick SOUND BLASTER as your sound card! And there your set. (Note to play through DOS *Suggested only for Windows 2000 down* just go to C:\ARENA and click Arena.exe!)

Running Arena in XP without DOSBox

First things first, get the game off the site and extract it, then download http://www.myfilestash.com/userfiles/rabish12/MOUSECTL.zip file. Without it you can still run the game, but you will not be able to use the mouse properly. Go to that file, and extract 'MOUSECTL.COM' to your ARENA folder. You can delete the zip now, as you won't need it.

Now you'll be wanting to make a file in Notepad. This will be the thing that actually makes the game run. Here's what you'll want to type:

(AUTOEXEC.BAT)
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 T6
SET SOUND=C:\SB16
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
LH C:\ARENA\MOUSECTL.COM 4,5,6,7,9,10,11,12

Save that as AUTOEXEC.BAT in your ARENA folder.

Now you're already close to being finished. Go to your ARENA folder, right-click A.EXE, and go to the 'Memory' tab. Set everything to 'Auto'. Now, go to the 'Program' tab and click 'Advanced'. A new window will pop up and allow you to change the AUTOEXEC and CONFIG files for the game - change the AUTOEXEC to this address:

C:\ARENA\AUTOEXEC.BAT

Now double-click ARENA.BAT. It should run the game fine, though you may have some sound problems. If that's the case, you'll probably want to go and ask around in the forums, or (if you know what you're doing) mess around with the various sound settings by running INSTALL.EXE in the ARENA folder.

How do I attack?
You attack in Arena by holding your right mouse button and moving the mouse in a random direction, this will allow you to attack.

How do I go into fast travel?
You can right click on the map or press SHIFT+M to access the quick travel screen.

How do I go through the shift gate?
When the shift gate asked you for the spell costs your were originally suppose to go look through your manual (This is copy protection for the game) but Bethesda has been so nice to give us all the information in a text or html document which is located in your Arena directory under the docs folder. From there it should not be that hard to find!

The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall

Is the Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall free?
Yes, you can download it from http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_games.htm together with instructions on how to install and run the game on newer Windows machines.

Can you give me some installation tips?
The best tips I can give you are to use the Unofficial Daggerfall installer which you can get here: http://www.uesp.net/file.shtml?dagger/files/dfinstall.zip (Direct Download Link) You pretty much have to use this on ME Up if you do not have DOS Experience, and if you want to install otherwise, the installer for Daggerfall should be able to help you out without any problems.

You can access the travel map in Daggerfall by pressing 'W' on the default keyboard setting.

You can download the two demos for Daggerfall You can get the smaller dungeon only demo (16MB) here http://www.uesp.net/file.shtml?dagger/files/dagdemo.zip and the Larger "Betony" demo here http://www.uesp.net/file.shtml?dagger/files/dfbetony.zip (58MB)
