When you level up, are you required to pick an ability, or do you have the option of saving up points?

You can save up points because some abilities are more than one point so you have to be able to save by default.

In other words, you can have a cortex bomb, laz grenade, satchel charge AND Gatling turret but you have no other abilities

No they're all one point, some are just unlocked at later ranks.

i think you MIGHT be confusing point cost with rank requirement. the star and the number on the ability menu is the Rank requirement.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't save them.
The strategy guide doesn't say anything about having to pick one until you want to.

Wrong, sir. All abilities are one point. The numbers indicate the Rank at which it becomes available.

You are forced to spend an ability point. This is to keep people from buying all the higher ranked abilities.

That's what I was thinking he did. I mean, you already have to wait to level 20 to get those abilities why should you have to waste a billion points to get it.

What kinda svcks is that you can only go into a match with 3 active abilities for each class.

If by saving them, you mean wait so you could more higher rank abilities then if you spent it right away, then no.

I'm pretty sure there is still a system in check to make sure you don't save all your points to 20 and then buy all rank 4 and rank 5 abilities.

ACTIVE abilities is the key bit there. You still have all your universal passive abilities, but your active abilities (throwing a Molotov, buffing teamates, laying down a turret) are restricted to the buttons on your D-pad (don't flame me PC whizz kids) and also to stop everyone being superman.

i don't know or you have to pick an ability when you level up, but i do know that you can also sell abilities so you can buy others if you wish, so you can have all the high ranked abilities, which is awesome! :flamethrower:

When you "sell" your abilities, your get all your points back and are dropped one level. So theoretically if you an save points you could just respec at 20 and be good.

However, splash damage said they don't expect people to respec at 20, but at lower levels. So if they knew you could save all your points to buy rank 4/5 abilities, then I think they would expect people to be respecing at 20.

Almost every single rpg system that has level, has a system in place to prevent this kind of abuse. I'm pretty sure S&D isn't stupid.

It should not force you but if it does you have the option to reset all the ability points at the cost of a level so if you arent happy with your choices just redo them.

You CAN save up your points. I was watching a livestream of gameplay yesterday and the guy never spent any ability points until he reached level 5 and he spent them all at once. I'm pretty certain there is merely a limit on the number of abilities you can have from each rank, for example, one rank 5 ability.

I'm pretty sure the game will allow you to save ability points for later, but it won't recognise that you've leveled up until you spend them.

So you get yourself to level 5 without buying any abilities, that's fine. When you go into the ability screen to buy your abilities, you have 5 points to spend. But until spend the first 4, no Rank 2 abilities are available (because you haven't SPENT the ability points yet, so you're not REALLY that level). When you're down to that last point, the only one you earned that should be buying a Rank 2 ability, is when you unlock those abilities to buy.

Don't take my word for it, but that's my guess on how it's going to work.
