Frequent game Freeze

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 4:07 am

You evil [censored]s. I have been a huge fan of Fallout since I played the original on PC. New Vegas is going to kill the franchise. I played FO 3 and all of the DLC. I downloaded Dead Money also. When I first started playing, I had no issues at all. As I play it more and more, the freezes are more frequent. I have done everything under the sun to keep it from locking up. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO TROUBLE SHOOT A CONSOLE GAME. I have played PC games before and I know the deal with updates and patches. This game has become unplayable. I know several people who will not buy another game from this company. I have played Morrowind and Oblivion. I love them. Given the poor quality of this game I will find it very hard to purchase anything from this company again. I am shocked at the lack of an actual fix for this game. How could the designers not know customers would have the volume of issues once this game was released? Now I am certain this post will be locked, deleted or I will be outright banned. I dont care. What I should do is demand my money back for the game and the DLC. For now I sit here, sipping a beer while I rant on this forum.

Freezing has pretty much ruined this game for me. Game makers were INCOMPETENT. Bottom line no excuses.

I too am done with Fallout after this after the last update the game became barely playable. I downloaded the DLC and now I can't play for more than an hour without it freezing. My game never froze until I got the DLC. This game is garbage. I want my money back it is absolutely unacceptable to release a game at this unfinished stage.

I love New Vegas. My experience is a lot better than most it seems, as I can play for at least 5 hours before the game freezes (requiring a hard restart of the console), and overwriting saves doesn't seem to give me any issues. However, due to the fact that even after two patches you can't swing a dead cat without it glitching off somewhere or otherwise hitting a bug that disrupts your game experience, I will never (EVER) buy a Bethesda or Obsidian game again, in my life. I love (and own) Morrowind GOTY edition, Oblivion with a number of add-ons, Fallout 3 (with Broken Steel and Point Lookout), and Fallout: New Vegas. However, due to the absolute disregard for customer satisfaction and a smooth play experience, and overall developer laziness and incompetence as well as lack of support and customer-developer communication, as well as the fact that the developers won't admit what a huge mistake they made, I find it all entirely unacceptable. I was truly looking forward to Skyrim, but I have a feeling as soon as I open the case, the disk will either disintegrate or explode. It's not clear whether the blame lies with Bethesda, Obsidian, or both, but I know I'm going to play it safe and discontinue my support of both companies. Maybe my 11/11/11 11:11 wish will be that Bethesda can become a respectable RPG company again. It'll either come true, with Skyrim being hugely successful and a wonderful game, in which case I will purchase it later, after release and reviews...or it will not, and I will watch with a heavy heart as Bethesda crumbles into the ground like so many before it. And I will know that its death was inevitable when it failed to maintain the right to continue its existence. That right is earned by...well, not doing what they did with New Vegas.

I am really sorry to say that I agree with the above. I am a HUGE fan of Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout. And ok, I can live with the glitches, but the freezing is just not acceptable. It totaly ruins the game. And even after the patch my game still freezes. Not all the time, sometimes I can play for 3-4 hours. What really pisses me off is the corrupt saves that makes me have to restart from the beginning. Shame on you Obsidian for having me pay full prize to become your beta tester.
Fallout New Vegas will make me think twice before I buy another game from you.

my game freezes at least 3 times a day, i just put the game on and 2 mins into it ive had to reset cos it froze on me, along with that it freezes for a split second every minute or 2 and this gets rather annoying,
also i found the controls rather slow, il be getting attacked an nearly die to be pressing the B button for a good 10-20 seconds before the pip boy menu initiates so i can use some supplies to heal mysuelf etc playing fallout3 is much quicker responding an smoother running. this just stitches me up in a lot of situations. its a great game it just doesnt hardly work properly.

I wonder if they will release another path for this game. I hope they do because the frequency of the freezes are quite ridiculous in frequency. There are still bugs also in the game but that is not as bad as the freezing that is occurring. Please fix this ASAP.

I can't believe this game is this bad, i can't play more than two minutes at all before it freezes. I have been a die hard fan of the entire elder scrolls series and fallout 3 with all dlc and now new vegas just ruined my trust in the quality of game. To think i just threw away 50 dollars! I should have gotten different game, but thought aw it's just the typical problems a new game always has, ha boy was i wrong.

I thought Microsoft didn't want publishers to use Xbox Live to deliver patches like onPC - i.e. they expected games to be finished when released on console. It seems patching on console is becoming the norm (even if the patches don't solve all the problems).

I'm having a lot of problems with Fallout glitches (see my post further down for the one I can't really get past). I have to say, though, mine hardly freezes at all. I've been through 80 hours of gameplay and it has only happened twice. Both times were immediately after I'd gone through a door so it had saved before it crashed anyway. Occasionally it goes into slow motion for no reason, like it does after you've just killed someone, but then it always goes back to normal a minute later.

I agree with the general point though. This game is horribly bugged in many ways and it ruins it. The game makers should be ashamed of it. As for the "invisible walls", that's just sloppy programming. Fallout 3 was infinitely better polished.

Maybe one of these days we can have the developer listen to us but right now they are just a joke. I have put around 50 hours into my game so far and now every time I try to enter the resort building in Camp Golf it freezes, so I can no longer complete Return To Sender or any other quest that is associated with going through that building. Good job for making a great game into something horrible due to freezing and glitches

Was hoping for some good news here - quite annoyed now. Exchanged my disc for a new one - guess everyone could keep doing that till they work properly. Can't get my money back as I didn't have the receipt. Maybe if enough people do that for long enough it'd work - obviously suppliers have to refund retailers, and that should go right back up the line. Don't know what rights comsumers have in the US, here in the UK if you're the customer you're right and stores will bend over backwards to keep you happy.
Fed up now, cos I really like this game, and there's obviously no point in continuing to try and play it.

My game freezes roughly every 10 minutes or so. That is on my newer game save, post patch. My older game save, pre-patch, can run for a couple of hours before freezing. It makes me think that the latest patch caused more freezing issues. I abandoned the game completely and will not be buying any DLC for it. It really bothers me too as I get that Fallout itch that can now only be scratched by firing up Fallout 3. Unfortunately, I've done nearly everything there is to do in Fallout 3 except for a couple of achievements.

The problems with The Pitt DLC turned me off of buying day one DLC from Bethesda. FNV turned me off of pre-ordering Bethesda games. I am not getting paid by Bethesda to QA their games. I can't help that's what we did during the first weeks after release. I will now wait until at least the first patch is released before buying any of their game. I am still a fan of Bethesda's games but not as much as I used to be.

I contact Bethesda's Tech Support from their site. Here's the conversation:

Me: Fallout Vegas locks up at Hoover Dam and other places. It's happening so much I can't play this game with any enjoyment anymore. I've tried to finish the main quests but I can't. I tried to clear the cache, delete multiple saves, stopped saving multiple times, nothing is plugged into my USB ports, I cleared and reloaded the update. I am not able to get anything but a terrible experience trying to play this game and all I have is a 59.99 paperweight that locks up my XBOX 360. What is being done to correct this very frustrating issue? I really want this game to work properly because I do enjoy it when it plays right.

Tech Support: Are you connected to Xbox live?

Me: Yes, I'm connected to Xbox Live.

Tech Support; Please make sure you have the patch for the game by being connected to xbox live and are signed in.

Me: Sorry, I already stated that I did in my original submission:

"I cleared and reloaded the update..."

I'm always connected to Xbox Live.

What next???

Tech Support: Since you have tried all of the steps to fix this issue you may have to resort to previous saves and/or a new game. Your save games could have become corrupted. Please turn autosaves off and at worst try a new game.

Me: I've turned off all auto saves about a week or so ago. It didn't work. I deleted most of my old saves and kept 5. So now that I'm at the end of my main quest I have to quit and start over because of game software issues?

That's insane.

This issue is prevalent on the Fallout Vegas forums so I know it's not an isolated issue. Is there going to be another patch coming up to address the lock up/freezes issues?

Tech Support: I do not have any information on any new patches, sorry.

I then contacted Bethesda's Customer Service using their website with this information. No one has ever responded to me.

My conclusion is that Bethesda doesn't care about their customers. After this fiasco I will not buy another Bethesda game.

As shameful as New Vegas was, I will be buying Elder Scrolls V on the day of release, and here's why.

Fallout: NV, Fallout 3, and Oblivion were built on the same engine used for Morrowind. All of these games suffered from freezing. I never noticed it in Oblivion or Fallout 3 (never really played Morrowind) but it was an issue that I have read about. New Vegas obviously takes the cake when it comes to freezing, but the bug is inherent to the game engine.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will FINALLY be using a new game engine, so I expect that they will make a program that is not designed to freeze.

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
