PC will have more then 8v8 multiplayer?

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 12:42 pm

Hey guys, i was just reading some FAQ and i noticed this:

In terms of available game options, how customizable will the Brink Standalone Dedicated Server be?
The Brink Standalone Dedicated Server includes several different game configuration files covering all of the regular game modes, including campaign, stopwatch, objective, and co-op challenges. In addition, there are a variety of server-side commands available that allow you to further customize your server, including team sizes, time limits and overtime, warm-up rules, friendly fire, voice chat, availability of Command Post buffs, rank restrictions, number of bots, and password.

Does that mean that servers for PC can have higher capacity then 8v8?

If that's so, i will buy the game because i dislike 8v8 it seems so low as i like chaotic battles.

No. That means you can make the teams smaller, but nobody has the ability to increase the amount of max players.

If it's half as action-packed as the gamepaly we've seen, it'll be filled.

You have to bear in mind how this game is designed. Brink is not in the same category as Battlefield, nor is it in the same category of Call of Duty for that matter, regarding game mechanics and their effect on practical player sizes.

Brink is based heavily around teamwork that requires players to complete objectives, not kills. All maps are also based around areas on the Ark, not the entire Ark or a massive battlefield. The story behind Brink also supports small groups of opponents fighting each other as the Resistance act in small guerilla groups, while the Security acts as a counter-insurgency force essentially; responding to the Resistance attacks and attempting to rid them from the Ark.

Because of this, there is no reason for Brink to support 64-player or 32-player matches as it is not practical nor is supported by the story. It would detract from the gameplay experience even for those who enjoy 32-player Battlefield: Bad Company 2 as the core genetics of Brink's concepts are not compatible with greater than 16-player situations. I would hazard a guess at stating that Brink would never be able to support greater than 16-players.

In summary, there is no reason to worry about Brink not being able to provide you with the exciting and immersive experience that you expect from this game just because it does not support greater than 16-player matches.

Is it confirmed that you cant increase the player size? I think it would be a good idea to give the option to maybe increase to 24 or something, it works well in TF2 which was only meant for 24 players (increased to 32). Also if somewhere down the road they do release SDK (cross my fingers) it will allow for the creation of bigger maps, and overall just give the game more variety, which is always a plus.

If it is confirmed can someone provide a link

32 slots worked kinda well in TF2, because the maps are big enough for that. Brink is totally different. I'm all against 32 slots. 16 is fine.

We may yet see more than 16 player servers if the server admins take it upon themselves to mod/hack the ability to allow more players. Whether you chose to play on these servers or not will be personal choice of course. Bigger maps would probably be needed for this to be successful.

I've played tons on servers with more players than normal (TF2 32 players) but I'm going to reserve opinion on how this would work with Brink until I've thoroughly played it the way it was meant to be played (8v8). Any server admin that tries to get 32 players running out of the box should be scrutinized as having not bothered to play test the normal game play first and the experience could well then be forgettable. It may work and it may not, only time and some dedicated server admins will tell.

i'd like to see Brink get an update or something later on for maybe at least 12vs12.. some games can be fun with more people. it will get boring after a while killing the same players ;)

So no one really knows for sure if they will allow for admins to increase player sizes, do we? We dont really know if 24 players would work, but i see no reason for the devs to prohibit it, let the community try it out on the PC, and if they like it we will see some 24 player servers, if not we wont see the servers, more options is better.

Do they need to release the SDK for the admins to be capable of doing this?

btw i am talking about PC's not consoles, consoles have limits for a reason
