In Skyrim, dragons are the new cliff racers.

Oh please no!

If there are dragons I hope there is just one, and it's involved with the main quest.

There could be a mix of smaller (cow sized) non-sentient dragons that you could use for a mount or trophy hunting but it looks like at least one biggy was hibernating in the trailer. I hope that that one big one is sentient and not the pet of an anti-climactic high elf. The only thing that worries me is that if you have to fight him, Oblivion's method won't cut it. I don't want to spend the last minutes of the game hacking away at a massive dragon's foot. I would prefer to be working for the dragon against humans - a neat plot twist, to be sure..

Wasn't there supposed to be some king in Akavir who turned himself into a dragon and then tried to conquer the continent? Maybe he finally succeeded and now he's after Tamriel.

Yes, there is that. Or the tsaesci stole his secrets. Or Dagon finally knocked enough off the kalpa and Alduin is returning.

There is too little information as yet. But I can see no uninteresting possibilities, which is good in itself.

I assume dragons(akavir) will be attacking during civil war. So it might be a fairly long main quest

It reminds me of the upcoming Guild Wars 2 game (release date unannounced) that has five dragons rising up to cause major geographic and political changes in the world of Tyria. But I guess dragons are a common enough trope in fantasy that it's unsurprising "Skyrim" will feature them. I also wonder how this will compare to those in "Dragon Age".

Hopefully they won't be the same as in Dragon Age.

"Bullet-sponge" enemies for the sake of "omg there is a boss critter with LOOT" isn't what I want Elder Scroll dragons to be. Even with the bullet-sponge properties dragons, drakes, and dragonlings got to be routine. Made some nice armor once you got to Wade, but still.

Now, dragons as sentient, intelligent beings, possibly with their own agenda? Much better.

I strongly doubt these dragons will be sitting around in lairs waiting for you to come and kill them. No, they're after something more than that.

I'm really not convinced there will be dragons in Skyrim, to me it looked more like a metaphore, but I may be wrong of course.

I think that there will be actual dragons in the game, but you could be correct. I'm not going to discount the possibility that the dragons represent either Akavir or the Empire (Septim Dynasty defunct, but maybe the Medes adopted the same symbols if they were successful in founding the Fourth Tamrielic Empire)

Perhaps Beth has finally tuned their engine to include Dragons on a wide scale. It seems like in Morrowind and Oblivion..dragons would have been a technical difficulty. But now that they seem to be aluding to them I'm betting they have the engine to implement such creatures in an effective fashion.

Well, if the dragons are intelligent creatures as we're all hoping, I wonder if they'll have their own faction that you could ally yourself with. Obviously, at least some dragons are antagonistic according to the trailer, but if they can think for themselves who says they all have to be working towards the same goal. You could have some dragons who, for their own agenda, want you to sabotage a rival dragon's plans. In any case, as long as they aren't the minions of some hidden sorcerer or just mindlessly rampaging beasts I'm sure Bethesda will make it work.

Please do read the date of the posts before posting your evaluation.

The dynamics shown in the trailer were amazing. I hope that each dragon fight will be uniquely challenging and unlike the Oblivion gates. Albeit, I had fun closing the first few Oblivion gates but subsequently the gates felt rather repetitive. Seeing the dynamic behaviour of the dragons in the game is promising.

Any word on whether we'll have a more varieties of dragons?
