Community Poll Discussion

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 3:15 am

I just found this section of the forum and have been reading some posts here, and saw the cool stickied poll at the top, and found myself dying to reply to it. So this is a topic for anybody who wants to discuss the results of the official poll in an un-official thread.

I'd just like to kick it off by saying tat I'm shocked by the number of people who found these forums from The Elder Scrolls series. I mean, that's how I got here, and they're my favourite games, but I never knew they were so much more popular than Bethesda's other games.

Well that's to be expected given the fact that the only series on that poll that's been under Bethesda's ownership for the entire lifetime of this forum is The Elder Scrolls. Unless you count IHRA Drag Racing... but nobody ever counts IHRA Drag Racing. :cryvaultboy:

(It's not even on the poll!)

I haven't looked at the poll in a while myself, and wow, I'm pretty surprised that so many people who came for Brink voted.

Yeah, I'm personally not surprised with the Elder Scrolls being on top considering it's sorta Bethesda's flagship series. In addition to whatever folks we already have, we also now have the Skyrim entrants to add to the mix. I'm also not surprised with the majority of users here being in their late teens. Myself included.

I'll tell you what did surprise me though, the 79 females we have here. Really? Where?

I thought there were like, 4.

I was fifteen, going on sixteen years old when I joined, so I was in the 13-15 group. Now I'm twenty, going on twenty-one, so I'm in a completely different age voting bracket.

This was originally the official The Elder Scrolls forum, and have over time grown to include other games published by Bethesda as well, so it's not that surprising.

I'm surprised there aren't more like me in the 40+ age range. When I was a kid, I remember the first space invaders cabinets, home computing just started to take off when I was in secondary school, and Dungeons and Dragons came out. Don't care how geeky or nerdy it sounds, the first time I played basic DnD aged about 11 or 12 changed my whole outlook on life, and is probably the reason I still play computer games today.
What happened to everyone else like me. I settled down, got a job, and had kids ( three boys, at least I have someone to talk games with ), but never stopped doing the things I enjoy now and again. Did all those other kids I saw pouring money into arcade games stop wanting to kill virtual enemies somewhere along the way ?

I don't find it that surprising. TES is basically what gave Bethesda their name.

I am surprised about the number for Fallout, I figured that would have been a bit more. I also thought that Brink would have been less.

You mean it isn't any longer? When did that happen, and why did nobody tell me! :sadvaultboy:

I wondered why there where all these people here talking about Falloff and stuff.

Wuh? I thought there were more of us! No wonder most people just assume a poster is male :sadvaultboy:

Er, yeah, as Freddo said these used to be the Elder Scrolls Forums from elderscrolls.com and moved over to gamesas.com when they started buying up some games to get publishing (and in a couple cases also developing) rights of.

The userbase you see that has been here for a number of years were essentially imported from the Elder Scrolls Forums.

I'm surprised at the number of Kiwis... There's 11 of us?!

And how little there are from UK & Ireland, I expected them to rival the states for numbers.

I also sniggered that no-one came for Rogue Warrior.

Seems to me sometimes that a lot of the UK population are too busy learning the names of every player, in every football team, to have any leisure time left for anything else.

I'll pretend I understand what the residents do in the UK and laugh.

So, lemme get this straight, people obsess over the soccer teams and learn every players name so they can talk football for fun?

9 % female 91 % male, i found that interesting. I though just a bit more girls were into gaming, especially games like TES. Something around 15 %. :o

Remember that all of the TES community isn't on these forums and not every member has voted on that poll.

Yep. national obsession, I used to go to my mate's house, we would play guitars and talk music, politics, religion, Zelda games, you name it, then anyone else turned up, it all turned to Aston Villa's latest signing for the rest of the night. How can that be more interesting than Zelda?

I voted Australia and New Zealand just for the sake of it. I voted Rogue Warrior just for lolz.
