Good thing a family with kids who could also hear it moved in at about the same time, or nobody might have believed us. :P

DO YOU HEAR THAT SOUND? There it is again! Do you hear it now?! :ahhh:

Yeah, like that. I'd rather have rats in the walls. *obscure reference time*

Best just get some normal traps and be done with it. Don't want to go insane and start babbling about the ratsmice in the walls.

The time for Lovecraft references has already come and gone ^_^

Haha this.

Seriously though if you absolutely don't want to kill them you can try sticky traps but they aren't that effective although it did catch the one that was in my house a year or two ago. Otherwise I recommend your standard mouse trap or poison. Preferably the standard trap though because with poison they'll probably die somewhere in the house without you knowing and start to stink, even worse if they can somehow get into your walls and die :yuck:

FYI sticky traps do kill the mice. Once on there they don't come off. Ever. I saw one that had been trapped on a sticky pad and it pulled so hard that it tore one of it's own legs off. Needless to say, it died.

You are better off calling an exterminator to eradicate the little buggers.

i've been seeing mice in the garage and inside the house recently and i would like to build a trap that will catch them without killing them

does anyone know of plans or examples of a trap i could build?

Well, I was going to suggest buying the Victor brand of mouse traps.... I know, I feel bad about killing them, too. But when you've had your room stink like dead mouse for a month in winter, you'll be a lot less sympathetic, too. Especially when this happens multiple times... Really, dead mouse smell is horrible, I'd rather smell skunk spray.

Anyway, I have seen devices at Wal-mart that trap the mouse but don't kill it, so that you can put the mouse somewhere else.

Here's the thing: you'd have to put it somewhere far away so it doesn't come back. Which means it might just go and cause trouble for someone else. Never mind that some states in the US have laws forbidding you from transporting wild animals. We had a woodchuck in the backyard that was ruining my mom's garden. We wanted to trap it and release it somewhere, but we learned that our state has laws prohibiting the transport of live wildlife without a license. Yes, even raccoons, woodchuck, you name it. In the end, we smoked it out and filled in the burrow, haven't been troubled by it since.

Take a large glass, place a piece of yummy in it (cheese, apple, what ever..) and something the mouse can climb up the side with, like a stick taped to the side of the glass.

Place in the open.

Mouse comes to take a look, sees the goodies, smells the goodies, climbs the twig and tumbles into the large glass, that is too smooth to climb out of.

The mouse, then looks rather silly as it wonders how to get out of this one, while eating said goodie -after all, you just put the poor creature in this predicament, the least you can do is let it have the yummy treat. Right?

And here's a picture, in case you thought this was my idea.

I won't tell you how we do things in Amsterdam against mouse infestations..., it would get me banned

I actually captured a mutant rat/mouse in a glass planter that was used for decoration in my house. It looked like an upside down light bulb with a smooth bottom and he couldn't climb out. However as soon as I turned it upside down to put the little bugger in a garbage bag it climbed up the class walls. Worst part about glue traps is the mouse will urinate on itself to try to dislodge its feet.

We used to have problems with mice but were able to buy some traps from our local d.i.y shop. They were non lethal and looked like a plastic L shape. With the idea that you put some food at the end and lay the trap agaist the side of the wall, and when the mouse would run in for the food the trap would tilt up and close a plastic door behind it. completely non lethal and simple to use check just had to check them at the end of the day and release any that had been caught back outside. Hope i helped
