Most accurate map of Tamriel...

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 1:40 am

I was wondering if anyone would be able to judge which of all the maps of tamriel is the most accurate.

Im mainly concerning these two maps http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/mm449/DDevilMonkey_666/SKYRIM/tamriel1.jpg or http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/mm449/DDevilMonkey_666/SKYRIM/tamriel2.jpg

Not particularily fussed about location names and such, more the landmass itself.

In my opnion, the first one has much more accurate landmass compared to the landmass in morrowind.

But i was just curious what you all thought

Arthmodeus's seems to be more accurate on the landmass and gives more information on climate and vegetation, but it is a little shaky on the placement of cities and roads. For example, Dagon Fel, Ald Velothi, and Tel Aruhn are not quite where they are in game, and the roads around Ald'ruhn and Chorrol are inaccurate. When Vality's places a city or a road, it is more accurate, but it omits a number of significant places and back roads.

Interesting, vality's one seems to be stretched alot wider compared to Arthmodeus's version, all the islands seem much narrower.

But when placed over morrowind, Arthmodeus's seems to be the nearest match

None of them. The land changes with each game.

What I would like to know is where did Arthmodeus get all the city/town names in the Provinces not featured in a game from?

Mainly Arena and the map from Redguard. Arena had all of Tamriel in it, Redguard had the Abecean Sea pretty well mapped out.

Both maps are a little exaggerated, but for geographic features, I prefer Arthmodeus' and for political features, I tend to use Vality's.

Redguard included the placement and names of Thras's Coral Kingdom? I never knew that

Like Mehrunes Dagon, I'll use either depending on the situation, but I prefer Vality's for cities. It's the difference between a political and physical map.

However, I did notice recently that the Cyrodiil game map in Oblivion does not match up with Vality's map. I found out the Corbolo river, that stretches from the Niben up towards Cheydinhal, in game nearly touches the city. But in Vailty's it doesn't even go past the road there. I was mapping out a journey for a fanfiction and found a discrepency in which path they should take. So for things like rivers and coastlines I always go with Arthmodeus.

The official maps are best, so if you're doing local things, use those.

Not sure if you have noticed in the morrowind mods forums but ive started a project to recreate tamriel in its entirety, so i need to find the most accurate shape of the landmass, preferrably the same as what TR are using.

The thing is, on each of the two maps, Vvardenfall is a completely different size. On Vality's map, skyrim is roughly two times as wide as Vvardenfell, whereas on Arthmodeus's map, they are roughly about the same width, which doesnt seam right to me. Also, Vality's map lists alot more of the small islands around the coastline of each province

And are there any links to the official maps anywhere? Cos i have yet to find any

I don't know which map TR is using.

The Imperial Cartographic society is a bunch of drunken apes, their maps are inaccurate and inconsistent. Even so they cite military security concerns - with slurring tongs I might add.

Map makers have a tendency to also be artists and as such both Arthmodeus and Vality's maps contain some artistic additions and enhancements. Though last time I check both are fairly benign.

Reliably there is:

The http://www.imperial-library.info/maps/map-big-tamriel1.1.jpg, made by combining the province maps of the game Arena.
The http://www.imperial-library.info/maps/n-enc-tamr-map01.gif, made by combining the province maps in the race descriptions on the Bethesda site at the release of Oblivion.
The http://www.imperial-library.info/maps/tamriel_westmap.bmp, as found in the game.

All three maps are roughly similar. The Oblivion map, the most recent, shows Morrowinds shape as it appeared in Morrowind, though Daggerfalls map of the Illiac which is widely different. Drunken apes.

For more maps check the http://www.imperial-library.info/maps/, official maps are labelled as such.

Well if i go by the latest map (Oblivion's map) and compare it to both Vality's and Arthmoeus's maps, arthmodeus's looks the same size, whereas Vality's is a much wider, as said before, according to Vality's map Skyrim is twice as wide

So i shall use Arthmoeus's map

Cheers all
