cheats confirmed for game consoles!

Post » Sat Sep 04, 2010 10:54 pm

its a good answer, but the fact is that the pc players DO get them and alot DO use them as fun little cheats. i think its only fair to add similar commands into the other console versions, no?

If they did (and I don't see why not as long as it disables achievements in your saved game) they should make some that are specifically for the purpose of being cheats, I think. If a PC user messes up their game they have tools at their disposal to fix it that the console users don't have. I'd be pretty upset if I used a console command on my 360 that screwed something up that I didn't notice right away and by the time I realized I'd done it I didn't have any of my old savegames anymore. :(

I personally don't like to use cheats, but the dev console has saved my butt in the past when I got stuck on something and otherwise would have had to fall back on a saved game from an hour ago or more.

id like both for cheating purposes and like you said, fixing glitches like getting stuck(especially inside buildings where you cant fast travel to free yourself) and like the problem on FO3 where the girl for turning in fingers runs away and it can be hard to find her.

im gona play the mod card and say that we console players dont get to have fun making and palying mods. mods add TONS of extra hours of play. cheats add a few, so all im asking is for us to get our moneys worth with a few cheats to add to the fun after we've played the main game(or before to those who would, their game/money do what they will)

Not the game devs call I'm afraid. It's ALL Sony and Micro. "But then why dose [X Game] have them?" Ever heard of a "Deal"? They did that

No doubt bethesda could throw their weight around and get it done, but they probably don't want to - mods for their engine are effectively no different from any of the game content, it's loaded using the same system, in exactly the same way. That means it's really very complex. The engine also doesn't handle large amounts of extra content well, and the games already lag sometimes on consoles. They can be broken, and break the rest of the game until they're unloaded, or even break saves, they'd have to host them, moderate them, and even then console gamers would be restricted to tweaks and changes, with little additional content. It could, given infinite time, money, and planning, work. But they don't have that.

re:Cheats, they ain't that great. Sure, you can add any quantity of any item to your character who can fly and is invulnerable, but why would you want to? It defeats the point of the game - you want to be unstoppable, go level up.

I do believe developer codes need to be in console versions.. I know people consider them cheats but there were plenty of times on the console that my character got stuck and I would have given anything to have the tcl code (Toggle Clipping) on there. It feels so unfair when you have to re-load to go through an area again just because of some stupid design flaw your character gets stuck in something. Saving before exploring is always a must but if you get stuck in a rock while running through the wastes and your last save was half an hour ago that ticks me off. TFC..(toggle free camera) what he was using during the video would be awesome.. just to observe things going on while your character isn't there.. Granted on the pc version these things are all available. Why they aren't on the console is beyond me. It's not like this is some online game where other people would actually care if you cheated.

When we're showing New Vegas, we typically use a 360 dev kit. These allow for console commands through a keyboard. I've even used save files with god mode, etc. turned on already -- so I don't need to input the command using a keyboard.

Those won't be in the final game.

I'm on PC and I don't use cheats (maybe except for fun every once in a while), but apparently there are many console users who want to have access to these, and it's unfair that they don't.

Can't Obsidian at least add button combinations for basic cheats like invincibility, no collision, unlimited ammo, etc, like some console games do? Yeah sure cheating ruins all the fun but there are also occasions people don't need dev commands for "cheating", but because they are stuck in a door or a glitchy object and they don't want to backtrack from an old savegame.

And if Micro$oft and $ony don't allow it, this is just another reason to hate their greed.

Junkie - you got it. Thats one of the advantages of using a 360. But as Gstaff said he was using a 360 devkit, so...

Starforce9 - it's possible to disable trophies/achievments for cheats. Mercenaries 2 World In Flames was coded that if you used a cheat code all trophies/achievements would be locked for that save file. I don't know how hard(or easy) it is to program this into a game, so I wont comment on that aspect aside from what I've seen with Mercs2. However, in the case of having even a limited console command option - clipping, disbale, etc - actual tools that could help prevent gamer's fusturation from possible bugs - they could allow you to open the console, but before you can select(or enter) a command, you get a warning message about how using any console commands will result in trophies/achievements being locked for that save file. This way we still get some console commands at a cost of any trophies/achievements.

Personally, I DO wish the game had some cheats, as I do use cheats and such after I've beaten the game. Heck, if they did add them(which we all know they wont) they could make it so you cant use them until after you've completed the game. Just a thought. And I dont see anything wrong with it, at least in FO NV - its a single player game with no online component to it, so I dont see any reason to use the whole "cheats ruin the game experience" argument execpt as a personal belief. IF, however, FO NV had an online multiplayer mode I'd be aganist cheats entirely for the simple fact of inconsiderate gamers using them then claiming they are "leet"(or whatever they call themselves today).

The above comments about cheats/console commands is, of course, just hypothetical commentary. We all know the truth - that the PC version will be the only one to feature a console for dev commands.

Or they might not want to be "in debt" to Sony nor Microsoft. I think it's like owing La Costa Nostra a favour. Very bad mojo

I'm sure the game will ship with more than enough exploitable glitches to make up for a lack of cheat codes for console players. Give it a few weeks and You Tube will have dozens of videos showing them off. If by some fluke there is a lack of these glitches in the inital release then you can count on some rushed DLCs to add some hilarious ones that disable whole sections of the game.

Firstly, it is not Cheating, it is Enhancing Game Play.

However if you want to modify the game, you need to play on PC. If you want to play the game as shipped, then play on the console (or PC, just don't monkey with stuff). I rarely use the console in game, even if I am in a cheating frame of mind. For me, most of the time, the console is used to get unstuck.
