Kind of mad now

Post » Mon Jun 07, 2010 7:28 am

I just read the Fallout Fan Interview: Part 2 and it said something like no free roam after the credits roll. So I'm upset right now, but I'm going to try and hold back my anger. How does everybody feel about this? Or am I just a :shakehead: and misread what that guy said?

Every Fallout game has an ending, why would this be any different?

... I don't know which I prefer, that people resurrects old threads or that they make new ones about the same question :shakehead:

Personally, I prefer having an ending. As long as they don't repeat what Bethesda did with FO3's ending, as well as makes the ending clearer, I have absolutely no objections to raise about them having an ending in the game...

There's no free roam after the main quest... it just ends... no more unless you reload a save so you'll never beat everything on there in one save and have everything from beating the main quest

You didn't read it incorrectly, there IS a final ending. And it's really not surprising.

While you might be complaining about that, the game developers have good reasoning behind the decision. If they had done what FO3 had, they couldn't allow the player to have a REAL impact in the end. Because they couldn't apply those impacts in the actual game, even for a DLC, for the free roam. It just wouldn't work out well, whether due to the game's limitations or storyline/dialog problems that would come up, I can't remember for sure. So instead they'll make it really obvious when you're about to come to the main story's end(and, I presume, possibly die), so that if you still have other things to do in the wasteland you can do that beforehand. And once you DO reach the ending, they'll do what they did in FO2(and I think FO1?), in which they'll give a video describing how your actions effected EVERYONE. Which, actually, is pretty cool.

When it comes to free roam after or a final ending, I'm pretty content either way personally. They both have significant pros and cons, and both work. So long as the game doesn't trick me into accidentally ending my game too early in the case of a final one(which, from what I'm hearing, FNV won't), I really don't mind.

It saves before the point of no return.

I'd like to have free roam, but in the interview it stated that you will know when the game is about to end so you can go back and do what you need to do before you complete it. Once the first DLC comes out im sure you will be able to pick up from where you left off on a charcter thats already compelted the main mission line.

I very highly doubt that will happen. Broken Steel only came about because Fallout 3's ending was one of the most notoriously bad in gaming history.

Frankly, Fallout 1 didn't have freeplay after the end and it had one of the most memorable and best engines anywhere in gaming. Fallout 2 did and it ended up being pretty pointless. The only reason I wanted postgame play in Fallout 3 was that Fallout 3's ending was unsatisfying in the extreme.

I don't think so - at least if you mean that the DLC will "take away" the ending a la FO3. But I do think you can just install it, then load the before-the-last-mission save and go to the place of the DLC instead of procceeding with the last mission...

I personally prefer a definitive end to a game. I find I lose interest in exploring and doing unfinished side quests etc if I know I have finished the main quest.

I'd much rather a definite end and if I want to do more exploring etc, go back to a previous save if I want to do it with that character, or start over and do the things I didn't first time around.

I feel a little bad for the guy who made the ending.

Wonder if hes in a Bethasda dungeon somewhere....

But yeah just use the search bar to find a thread like yours and you'll see their reasonings from past posts.

It might be for the best for the game to have a definitive ending.

Idk why it whud matter all that much. Just keep two saved games 1 mission behind the other. Once you hit the last mission then just use ur second save all the time.

It changes up the order of your priority list when it comes to getting the 100% game completion achievement / trophy. But its still possible.

Anyone else infer that ur charecter might die? why else would there be no free roam after the last mission, either that or an expansion that continues on with the story but i dont think that obsidian would be that full of greed to make u pay even more just to continue on with the story. Thats what the Devs that made Assassins Creed kinda did, I think the majority of us would still buy the expansion ( more like the 'to be continued' DLC ) But i still think that would be a slap to the face.

Personally, the only reason I'd want Free Roam after the end of the game would be so that I wouldn't have to load up an earlier save after I'd already beat the game, in order to play an forthcoming DLC. That's something that somewhat annoyed me in Mass Effect 1, for example - I'd beat the game and moved on to other things, and then once the DLC came out it expected me to load up an existing save, play the DLC, and then (because I'm a bit obsessive-compulsive about this sort of thing) run all the way back through the end of the game again.

Frankly, I hope that if New Vegas does eventually feature DLC at some point, that the first one (or maybe even simply any of them) patch into the end of the game so that I won't be forced to backtrack just to see it. I don't usually replay a whole lot of games in the first place, and by the time DLC starts coming out I'm generally playing another game anyway.

Otherwise, if there isn't going to be any DLC, then I'd just as soon have a definitive ending. There's nothing I'm going to want to be doing after I've already finished the game that I couldn't have done before - and usually with a game as large as Fallout is, that I went through and "finished" it already means that my attention span was growing short and I wasn't going to be interested in playing it too much longer in the first place.

Everyone here is so polite, but Im not. You realy care that much about wether you have to load a save before or after the last quest?

If I see another one of this threads I will punch a hole in my wall :banghead:

You complain about "No free roam lllol llol looll." Eventually however, you will shelve the game and move on. That game ends either way.

Well, that's enough. This thread is generating problems quicker than I edit or delete them. Just not worth the trouble at this point.
