Are Skaal monotheists?

Post » Thu Jun 10, 2010 10:10 pm

Hello. Not long ago I played through MW, Trib, and Bloodmoon. In Bloodmoon, you deal with a clan of Nords(?) named the Skaal. It seems like they only recognize a single divine, which they call the All-Maker. Am I correct that they are monotheists, or am I mis-understanding their religion?

Seems to be more like dualist monotheists like Zoroastrianism. Isn't the greedy man equal and opposite to the All-Maker?

The All Maker may be a reference to Bioware, it seems like a lot of their games reference a deity known as the Maker (Mass Effect, DA: O)... maybe the Maker is referenced in older Bioware games that predate Bloodmoon.

They're animists, and I'm sure the All Maker is very much his own font of inspiration. He made all.

He could just be the patriarchal head of a pantheon of gods. To compare to Norse mythology, Odin, I believe, was called the "All-Father" and although chief of the gods, was only one of many.

They believe in Hircine. They don't worship him, but they certainly believe in him since he shows up and kidnaps their folks with werewolves every once-in-a-while.

Note: their god's name is the All-Maker. Just because he made-all doesn't mean he is-all. In mainstream Tamriel legend, Lorkhan made the whole world, but there are plenty of other gods. (Maybe Lorkhan IS the All-Maker by another name?)

Nope. proweler keeps schooling me in that the All-Maker is not Shor/Lorkhan/Shezzar. Instead, the All-Maker is more like Aruiel, and that Shor/Lorkhan/Shezzar is an aspect of the Adversary known as the Greedy Man.
