Snow's dynamic? Okay cool! Great!

Are you serious? Tell me your jokin'.

I think he's unsure because it's north.
But the fact is that it does rain in the north too...

Also, we've seen so far that there is temperate climate, sunny weather and overcast and fog in Skyrim. All this indicates that there, pretty much, has to be rain too.

That's my "support" for coming to the conclusion that there is rain in Skyrim.

I'm definitely hoping we'll also see (hear) something similar to http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4939 so if you're in an interior cell during a thunderstorm, you can actually hear it raging outside. It makes interior cells feel much more like they are part of the outside world as you could hear the muffled thunder and rain whilst sitting inside the tavern :)

Ah yes, definitely this too. Would love to hear rain and thunder from inside :D

That would be cool but I think Pete confirmed on twitter that outside and inside are separated by cells again.

Doesn't hinder you to hear rain. Add a script + sound.

Why do you think there are several mods that have accomplished this? It's not like they have eliminated cell seperation :P

Having static windows and not be able to see out of them but hearing raining and snowing outside would just be a tease.

this thread actually got me thinking about what it would take to actually create snow and rain. all i can say is wow and i dont think there is a computer in existance that would actually be able to do it.

how much computing power would it take to calculate 10 billion raindrops, the size of each, the trajectory of each, the impact of each in puddles, the reflectiveness of each, the accumulation of each raindrop on the ground to form puddles, the calculation of such puddle evaporating due to heat and humidity, the calculation of how much of the water will actually seep into the ground, the gravitational effects of rain drops hitting sloped objects, the splash effect of each drop of rain in a puddle and the effect it would have on the puddle, etc. everything else that rain does that im not thinking about or decribe...

is it possible to actually run a full simulation of real rain not to mention snow?

Correct, in Oblivion we also had separate interior and exterior cells. But the mod linked in my post managed to let you hear the muffled rain and thunder in an interior cell when there was a raging thunderstorm outside. :)

Then we should also have something like http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34199, which was another Oblivion mod that allowed you to look through the windows (it was just an illusion of the outside world, but it sure added to the atmosphere) ;)

Imo it wouldnt. Worked great with all the mods I've played that have added it. And the mods have gotten really great reception. It adds a nice immersion boost when it's rainy and thunderstorm :D

But sure, it would be a lot greater if we have no cell seperation (or some illusion like... the mod http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34199).
Still, that's not gonna happen in TES 5 :(
So the best thing to do in this case would be to add these sounds... I think

I believe there are some videos on youtube that show the ps3 cell processor simulating rain. I'd link them but I'm on my phone right now.

And there are many videos of GPU-based rain simulation that look so good that it may actually cause water to fly out of your monitor. The thing about tech demos is that they're tech demos because they're not yet feasable, they may handle their one thing well, but they leave no room for anything else. With absolute, no corner cutting rain simulation, skyrim would have to be Raindrops: The game.

I'm on the console so I haven't been able to experience those mods.

Yoshi, you hate me and the PS3 haha! Just kidding, but you do love to debunct my statements especially when they are ps3 related. But that's why I like ya! I'm not too educated when it comes to pc gaming so I do like seeing you break stuff down because you do a good job of it.

I would want rain to be something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2LhfzbFo4g
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yxnETZ6RZk

In other words, you can see a rain splatter and a "rainy surface" on top of the ground.

Rain puddles would also be great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHoSMFSksFg

Link 1 : The rain impact looks like blood splatters...

Link 2 : Wow, but it must be ressource demanding...

Link 3 : Yea, that would be great... But long to make, because Skyrim will be way bigger than RDR...

Link 1: The video is over 4 years old. It's quite good for being that old, compared to Oblivion's rain that falls through the ground and everything. It can definitely look better today.

Link 2: Why? Where are your sources?

Link 3: Long to make, again... where are your sources? Secondly, having rain puddles doesn't define the game as a whole, and it has nothing to do at all with how big a game according to your own personal opinion is ;)

The puddles in TDU2 add a nice effect. Would like to see something similar to that effect in Skyrim.
