Weapon throw

Post » Sun Jun 13, 2010 10:39 pm

There s an almways neglected aspect of fighting that is weapon throw.
We see this in few movies like Braveheart, Ladyhawke and we see this in many PnP games.
I m not talking about throwing knives, Shurikens, throwing dart, spear/javelins.

I m talking about throwing unusual weapons like 1 handed swords, 1 handed axes, and why not in extreme cases 2 handeds ones.

Since we have 2 weapons it could be a cool feature, especially if there s diferenciated hit boxes, with diferent damages. It could be devastating.

But maybe its only me...

im sure there will be some people who like the idea.. but i'm not one of them, melee weapons should stay for melee weapon and ranged should stay as ranged .. they were designed that way for a reason

It looks cool but not really a good idea irl.

In a game you have to account for even more variables.
Too many to make it worth it for Beth babe to consider given that other more simpler weapons and styles are not in the game.
.
TBH though if the Physics allowed it I'd love to be able to use nick nacks as projectiles or distractions.
Bottles, plates, tankards, weapons, fruit...

Throwing a sweet roll to start a duel to the death would be awesome.

I'd rather throw livestock than swords. Have you seen Rio Bravo where John Wayne threw a chicken at the bad guy? That was awesome.

I'd imagine that Nords would have a sport of goat throwing.

It's usually a last ditch effort that only really works out in action movies (usually ones with mel gibson). Most weapons aren't balanced properly so when thrown they would be terribly ineffective, plus now you are disarmed.

Hatchet's would probably be the exception to this as most of them are made to be thrown, and wielded as axes... but I don't think its a good idea for this game.

I like the idea. I loved it Assassin's Creed Brotherhood when a guard would run after me, I would throw my big ass 2 handed sword at him and watch him fly backwards. Loved the physics in that game! Would be really cool in Skyrim as well!

Well its not that hard to throw as sword, its the same principle as throwing a knife, the range is pitifull like5 meters, but you can piercean inch or more of wood.

I agree its not a fundamental feature, and about weaponless i sayd 2 1 handed users, its usefull for fleeing target.

Nords(more) and celts used throwing axes before kicking into the clash, it could would distract an opponent enought to make the diference, especially if the opponent was a non shield wielder.

alright, I guess it would be cool if you could throw it AT them rather than try to pierce them with it, for that matter I would want to throw a war hammer at them or something. Something big and heavy that would knock them outta whack.

Voted 'Maybe' because like any idea for new features that bring new gameplay I'm not against it but I don't necessarily need this to be in the game to enjoy it either. I probably wouldn't use it in most cases but the idea of dual wielding throwing axes just would open up so much to the combat that I think it would be a cool idea maybe. Swinging them and slashing in melee then throwing them for like a kill move or something.

I really liked how Assassin's Creed Brotherhood did it. Where the same axes you could swing and block and fight with melee you could also throw at a fleeing enemy or someone coming in to attack. It was brutal and just fit that games combat well.

The idea of a Viking beserker dual wielding throwing axes like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0NfPuwBtLk&t=2m8s to me makes sense and maybe it could fit Skyrim. I wouldn't hold my breath though for this to be in Skyrim.

I'de say if they were going to do this bring back throwing weapons to go along with it.

Chairs were designed for sitting, yet some people throw them-- because the situation calls for it, and they improvise. :teehee:
What OP is trying to get across is: do you want to be able to improvise your weapon for throwing in extreme situations?
I for one, would like that. I know it isn't realistic, but hey-- if you want realism, don't play video games.

Just sayin'.

I mostly just want to be able to throw an axe....
What are Nordic warriors without throwing axes?
BOREdic warriors. :whistling:

I probably wouldn't use it too often, but it'd be cool to take down a fleeing thief with a war axe to the back of the head. :)

Throwing weapon will be awesome to see again, when Todd say thats only bows will be in Oblivion thats was horrible, still he forgot about staffs thats become magical guns, but he say thats was difficult to implement other marksman weapons and better to concentrate at bows, but in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzOsBAPoWQE is that difficult to be done was by developers?
Todays http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yt_FdTIBeU&t=2m9s and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTbkhsVHHEE&t=0m10s make it even better, you can thrown all weapons not need different class of weapons but some of weapon are better suit for throwing (daggers for example) and weapons stick in wood and bounce from stone, marksman and agility govern it and train from them is thats will be hard to be done when you have full accesses to engine?
Dark Brotherhood Assassins and Dunmer Morag Tong assassins and other nimble characters can use darts, throwing stars and throwing dagger and knifes, nords, orsimer and other strong characters can use throwing hammers and axes even throwing spears and javelins.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks Thrown weapons are usually only effective if they are specifically designed to be thrown. Otherwise they're pretty much useless.
And
Some people wish to throw their weapons. That seems foolish to M'aiq. If you hold your weapon, you only need one.

I would like this for certain weapons that are specifically 'balanced', otherwise pointless.

Actually voted yes despite not liking it, just for the added variation. But have mechanics in to suggest it might not be the smartest thing to do. Throw Umbra, my only weapon (due encumbrance), a bad decision in the first place, just to see the wounded creature run away with it at greater speeds than I can achieve - bummer. :D

For a little more spice maybe certain weapon types, or specific styles of swords, axes etc that are balanced can be thrown, while others have other added benefits.

I actually wouldn't mind something like in cod maybe you could keep one throwing knife/axe that you could throw at any time without having to change weapons. It could give a heavy melee warrior some ranged options. As far as main weapon no.

Throwing weapons are made specifically for throwing. There needs to be a certain weight distribution for throwing weapons... try and throw a longsword that is designed for melee combat, see how that goes. Throwing weapons are throwing weapons, and melee weapons are melee weapons. That's what they were designed to do, and that's what they will continue to do.

Just to clarify.. I'm not trying to bash anyone. I just don't believe its practical to throw a weapon made for combat. But hey, put it in the game, you guys can have fun lobbing claymores at each other... ill stick to my throwing knives, stars, hatchets, darts, ect. :)

If I can throw a sword or axe in real life then why can't I throw it in a video game? Sure I won't be able to throw it very far but nevertheless, I can still throw it.
