New PC running Windows 7 Pro.

Post » Fri Jul 02, 2010 9:05 am

Hi All.

I'm asking for any advice or Help please.

Old PC Gone up in smoke. :flamethrower:

Stats for new PC as Follows:

Widows 7 Pro
Intel® Core™2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.39GHz
RAM 4.00 GB (3.50 GB usable)
32bit-Operating System
Graphics ATI Raedeon HD 5700 Series.

My Old Mod list was rather Big. The Build I would like to run is A FCOM Game.
Will I be able to install the Mods the same way with XP using widows 7 please?

Will the Majority of Mods work properly using 7 ? Maybe there's a thread here which covers this Topic.I'm sure I've seen one.

Finally. The Character that I would wish to use, is a Sword swinging Breton. Which Mods would you try using for him please?

Thank you in advance for any Help or Advice.

With Total Respect,

James. :foodndrink:

If you're asking for advice on what I think you're asking, the best advice I can give is to make a backup copy of your Oblivion folder on another hard drive/computer BEFORE your current one goes up in smoke. That makes reloading all your mods much easier. :)

well other than intell (i just like AMD alot better but thats my opinion) u have a pretty well made system with a very nice graphics card.... so stats wise you should have no problem... and as far as windows 7.... thats what im using and i have no problems what so ever.... some of the stuff may be set up a bit differently than what ur used to on xp but once you get a hang of the interface its very similar.

Windows 7 user account control is the MAIN difference I've found.
Make sure you install Oblivion anywhere EXCEPT the programs folder or you WILL have issues with mods.
I recommend Cff explorer if you are running 64 bit, just follow the directions in the pack and it will edit the file header to allow you to take advantage of your extra ram, otherwise Oblivion will top out at around 2 gigs max.
heres a linky
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32405
Also Wryebash is a little funky installing with windows 7.
Just make sure you right click the Python installer and "Run as Administrator" and follow the rest of the inst, verbatim.
BOSS is a must now, as is TESLodgen, OBMM, OBSE and a Good understanding of BAIN installation in Wrybash.
Take the time, Do the reading, educate yourself and you'll save TONS of problems.
You need help just ask in the threads of the related MOD or utility.
ENJOY! :obliviongate:

I installed Oblivion and Fallout 3 to C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\ and I recommend that particular folder structure for anyone else as well.

I would definitely run 64bit. I'm pretty sure that your serial will work for 64bit but you just need to get a 64bit install disc. I know windows discs contain all the files for all the editions but I don't know if that applies for 32bit and 64bit too.

Especially with an FCOM setup 64bit would be nice to be able to use http://ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php little patch to let oblivion use more than 2gb of memory.

Anywhere outside of program files will do just fine. The game runs perfectly fine on a 32 bit system.

Hi Guys.

Thank you very much for replying.

I installed Oblivion and Fallout 3 to C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks\ and I recommend that particular folder structure for anyone else as well.

Sorted.Thank you. :tops:

This is a Legal Version of Windows 7, But I don't have any Disc's for it. Plus I broke my last PC with fiddling where I shouldn't. :brokencomputer: Thats not going to happen with This. lol :whistling:

Reinstalled in a New location. 32 bit system. Thank you very for the information. :tops:

Take Care.

Hi Guys and Gals,

I hope someone can point me in the right direction please.

I've not long had PC back after an installation error. not by me.

Before it went away I had everything I needed to Build a Complete new game on The same Drive that the game was installed on. Getting it Back I was on the wrong end of some bad Ear ache, being told I was wrong downloading everything on to the Same Drive.

Before starting to reinstall I need to know, Can I run the game On one drive .Which will Be My E Drive, while all the downloaded data files are On another Drive, Which is My F Drive Please?
If Yes, Is there anything special I need to make this work please?

Any help and advice is very Much appreciated.

Thank you in Advance.

James. :)

Assuming I read you right...

Yes, you can most definitely install Oblivion (and just about anything else) in a location other than your "C" drive. In fact I think it's best to keep "C" as uncluttered of anything other than Windows itself as possible. Makes for tidier house-keeping.

My own Oblivion install resides on my "I" partition (each physical hard drive can have any number of partitions depending on your needs and desires). Downloads are on "M" partition. My OMOD creation folders (now mostly obsolete, but kept for archival purposes) are housed on "P" (which resides on my second physical drive). BAIN package creation folders are on "R". Archival backups of my entire playable Oblivion directory (along with other backups) are on my last partition..."U". I've yet another partition where, amongst other things, I temporarily move old saves and screen-shots before burning 'em on to DVDs.

Am I saying you should do that? Heck no. But multiple partitions suit my sense of organization. The point is, again, that yes you can install Oblivion pretty much where you want to provided, as others have said, that you do NOT install it in the default Program Files location.

As to whether you need to do anything special to install to another partition/drive, the simple answer is NO, provided that partition/drive already exists and has the room to house what you want to put there.

At some point in the installation process, MOST programs offer to the option to select a non-default install directory. Oblivion most definitely does. Normal procedure at that point is to either click a "browse" button that lets you navigate your way to the desired location, or sometime just simply type in the correct path (replacing the default one) if you know it.

Some programs complicate things a bit by making you first select something like "custom installation" before offering the desired install-location options. Can't recall exactly how Oblivion handles it, but seems to me it is pretty straightforward.

I'm sure I'm leaving out some important pointer, but others can chime in and fill the void.

Most welcome. Glad you found my input useful.

Yes, you can reuse you already-built OMODs with a new OBMM installation. All you need to do is copy those OMODs into the new-install's Oblvion\OBMM\mods sub-directory. Just like if you were adding 'em to your old install. Not a lick of difference. Provided you don't need to update anything you should be good to go.

Not sure I follow your final question. What do you mean by "Other Drive"? The drive on your rig that went belly-up? Or just where you initially installed the game on your new setup? Either way, what you want to do is copy (not move, unless you want to delete the originals during the process. I wouldn't recommend that. At least not until all is well again.) your OMODs into the above mentioned new-install sub-directory. That's where OBMM will look for 'em. Just use your File Manager of choice and drag 'em to the proper location. Or use the "copy and paste" technique. Whichever is most comfortable. If the "Other Drive" is on another computer, you'll of course need to first copy the OMODs onto portable media (flash drive, CDs, DVDs, etc.), assuming you don't have the two systems networked and file sharing enabled.

Once again Thank you very much for your reply and information.

Sorry I wasn't clearer about my Drives.

On This New Rig Its been set up with 3 Drives. 1 is a restore drive. Just incase I mess this one up. lol :whistling: 2nd Drive is for normal PC use. 3rd Drive is where any download files and Backup files and folders.Such as All my Mods and OMOD files are stored. I'm getting good at breaking stuff lol

I hope this is a better explanation. I'm assuming now my earlier question makes better sence I hope. :)

Thank you again for your Help.

Warmest Regards.
